Each piece is over 4’ tall. I’m going to call the piece on the right Grandpa because it’s made of beaten copper pipe and a grumpy frown. Like my previous piece it’s also made of electrical copper wire, and channel yarn. It is meant to be part of the continuous same group as the last piece on the left titled eyes of love. However, along with grouping the two together I plan to make a smaller piece like a child piece.
I want to make it a family. It took me two weekends to put it together. There was much hammering of strips of copper to form them into the shapes needed. This piece was particularly tough because not all pieces were joined at the same time. Both assemblys had to be carefully sequenced because as I sometimes had to attach a piece to the same attach point that was previously soldered. When that is done, the risk of heating up the previous attachment is possible which would cause another copper strip to come loose and unflex, or I should say on spring itself and hit me.

The Palm Tree is an impressive sculpture that symbolizes the connection between nature and humanity. Made from robust ⅛ inch steel rods, the tree’s branches are elegantly bent at the top to support a collection of beautiful, dangling hands.
These hands, cut with a plasma cutter, are created from a mix of bronze, copper, and steel, each showcasing vibrant colors and unique textures. The jagged edges add an energetic feel, as if the tree is alive.
When the wind flows through, the hands create a gentle symphony of soft chimes and clinks, each sound evoking feelings of connection and shared moments, much like laughter among friends.
Weighing it down are metallic plates sourced from a fitness center, with some pieces coming from dumbbells. This clever use of materials enhances the sculpture’s balance, reminding us of the strength needed to sustain our relationships.
Each hand represents a connection, hanging in an inviting way that encourages interaction.

The Palm Tree serves as a beautiful reminder of the paths we share and the memories we create together.
