mo·jo - a magic charm, magic power, or spell
/ˈmōˌjō/ In 2020, during a time of crisis for the arts community, I launched a choreographic project bringing together local dance artists to create, connect, and present. Every work being presented this year is a reaction, a mirror, a physical representation of human experiences, culture, and community. Composed of a professional ensemble of gathered freelance artists, my project works to present provocative, emotionally and physically charged dance. My focus is to promote and empower diverse artistic voices and experiences. As a collective, we are motivated by the core human need to express, to be seen, to have an authentic connection, and to have the joy of gathering to experience and present live art.

One of the greatest joys from this process so far is watching these beautiful people deepen their craft, reveal new layers of themselves, and share new ways to connect, laugh, cry, and find meaning together. Your response and presence at our showing will be a reflection of these artists commitment and dedication to highlighting the identities, journeys, and questions of Matrescence.

Through artful impact we hope you’ll come join us for an evening of observation, movement, writing, and storytelling.

The Matrescence Project invites you to an inclusive multifaceted experience to get an intimate look at the creative process and a sneak peek of what MoJo Co.Lab is working on. Comprising a team of 15 artists, we invite you to share your evening with us through observation, movement, writing, work-in-process showing, and community dialogue. So bring a friend, sit back, enjoy a snack, create some art, and enjoy an evening of sharing!
