Here is the cutdown version of my 3 Song Set for the International Online Open Stage from 17 May, 2020. Here are the songs, and the lyrics are below: The Cynic, Why the Hell Not Me, and Slow Rollercoaster.

The Cynic
Words and Music by Malcolm Aalders
12 November, 2003

1.) With a belly full of stout, and head full of broken dreams
And a beard so thick, it seemed as if it spoke
He seemed like a weary traveler, 80 years on the road
He tapped my shoulder and he asked me for a smoke

2.) The cherry began to burn, he exhaled through his nose
He spoke to me as if I was his long lost friend
With his hand up on my shoulder, he looked right through my eyes
And said “This man’s story’s coming to an end”

Refrian:
He said “I ain't too bright, but I know when it rains
People profit off of other's pain
But if I never reveal my wounded Achilles Heel
I will stay dry even though the storm remains"

3.) He was thrown into this world, onto a bed of innocence
He saw it all through a child's eye
But he was raised in the city, in a concrete cocoon
And emerged a cynical butterfly

Refrain

4.) He said“We're a race of vulchers, picking at the dead”
He said “No one is born with a soul that's good”
Explained that Judas Iscariot, is the chosen Christ of man
And Mother Teresa would screw you, if she could

Refrain

5.) The bar came to a close, our conversation followed suit
I was left there to think about what he said
My heart goes to the man, who never saw the sun
Cuz he ran when clouds formed above his head

I'm Not Good Enough for Her
W&M: Malcolm Aalders
Oct-Nov 2018

1.) I can be an arrogant man, or maybe just the realistic kind
But I know a woman who can make a lion realize he's just ordinary swine
The First Day I met her in the bar, The Second Day I saw her at the church
I knew she would make me sing hallelujah, or make me stare into my glass and curse

Refrain:

I'm not good enough for her
Absolutely everyone agrees
But she's too good for everybody
So I figured, why the hell not me?

2.) I wasn't looking for a Savior, but I didn't need no saving any way
Then in my head, I heard a voice a'singing, saying “you're gonna marry that girl one day”
Patience might be a virtue, but it sure as Hell's no virtue of mine
I couldn't wait to see if she could walk on water, or maybe turn that water into wine.

Refrain

3.) The Third Day took a couple years. Would I be damned or live a bless-ed fate?
Throw myself into a life of Hell, or walk through a living Pearly Gate?
The Spirit in my head wasn't lying, when it sang to me that day saw her face
She puts a Heaven on this Earth, just in case I don't make it to that place

Refrain

The rapper (Koos Langeveld) of my band (Apelazerus) wants to do a collaboration with this song (I'm curious what he/we will come up with). I figure I'd record it today and post it since I haven't posted anything in a while (sorry, or you're welcome, for that!). I haven't played it in a long time, so forgive the rust...but hopefully you'll enjoy!

Minus 5
W&M: Malcolm Aalders

1.) You never hurt a soul, but you're in this class with us
Welcome to Brotherhood that's known as Sisyphus
You never tricked the gods, but you're treated like this still
Forever damned to go and push that boulder up the hill
2.) You keep on pushing upwards, and the top is drawing near
But it's just going to prove to be in vain, at least that much is clear
Sweat on your brow, locked in a frown, while the gods they wear a grin
You reach the peek just to watch the boulder roll down again

Refrain:
And you're hoping that tomorrow, will be better than today
You fight like Hell not to live in Sisyphus's way
But the boulder's there before you, you know that's the way it goes
You take 7 strides up to the top and find you're 13 steps below

3.) Now the greatest of intentions, can deliver from the dead
But then you watch them turn on you and they call for your head
And when you're handed over, you get subject to their hate
And you find yourself in a twisted form of Sisyphus's fate
Refrain
4.) Now you're lying on the shore, after your last breath
Complaining to Persephone about their their disrespect
But it all falls onto deafened ears, more maybe no one cares
So go back to your boulder, boy, 'cuz that's your cross to bear
Refrain
