Fiber Art of Jim Morrison of the Doors. Embroidery, fabric and thread. Psychedelic pattern was created from an up-cycled, silky shirt from a thrift shop. Thanks to friend and lovely neighbor Sheena Anne for the fabric sample books I used for his hair and the dark shadow underneath his chin.

Denise is a mixed-media collage + fiber artist whose
background as a graphic design art director informs her
work. She is a visual artist who has been working in
acrylic collage using her own photography and found,
vintage imagery. The rearranged reality with these
assembled moments communicate the energy and beauty
that gradually emerge with the stacks of re-purposed,
vintage magazines that she breathes new life into. Her collage
art evolves over time, like a puzzle, the process unfolding
with each decision that eventually defines the composition.

In recent years she began to explore her love for fiber art
by creating portraiture of the iconic “27 Club” and other
rock and rap stars out of fabric. She was accepted into the
International show, Excellence in Fibers V in 2019, held at the
much revered Muskegon Museum of Art with her fiber portrait
of the Notorious B.I.G. where it was on display for 5 months.

Then in 2022 she was accepted into the International Excellence in Fibers Vll Show with the piece “Jen in Stitches” which was a life drawing sewn onto a burlap bag. (pictured lower right) The original was purchased by an art collector in Lakewood, Ohio. Giclée prints are available upon request.

She has been accepted into numerous local juried shows in the Cleveland area and the state of Ohio including the Zanesville Museum of Art’s 77th Ohio Annual Exhibition in 2023; the
11th annual May Show at Lakeland Community College; BAYarts Group Exhibition, Wallflowers; Stella’s Art Gallery (2022 People’s Choice Award); Waterloo Arts; the Mandel JCC J-show (2017 Honorable Mention Judaica Award and 2019 Second Place Award); BAYarts (2017 People’s Choice Award); Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery at Ursuline College;Heights Arts; Cuyahoga Valley Art Center and more.

My fiber art piece "Playdate for Bonnie" was a part of the 2020 BAYarts juried show and will be hanging at Tommy's on Coventry along with 17 other fine art pieces by John Scavnicky and I starting election day for two months. Go cast your vote and chase it with a shake at Tommy's. This piece features my darling sister, Bonnie at about 3 years old being very wary of Biff, the Great Dane's tongue while sitting on a family friends lap. No doubt this photo was taken by my Dad and is one of my favorite vintage black and white photos in our family's collection. Amazing that my Dad didn't cut off the heads with this one! That was one of his trademark moves. It is a collage created in photoshop, printed on fabric and then stuffed and stitched. The frame is a beauty, embellished with found objects and funky details on the corners. This original piece is priced at $1000.00 Hope to see you at Tommy's!

I was commissioned to create this custom piece for High School graduate, Abby. Even though this gorgeous young lady missed her prom this year due to Covid, at least the dress will be forever memorialized in my fiber art!
