This was actually a commissioned piece. Amazing how factory-finish detailed one can get from a home workshop nowadays 😂 Seeing some pretty impressive builds out there.

Quick break from working on CRTs to do a simple Super Nintendo mod!

S-Video Enabled on SNES Jr

Client wanted their console to have S-Video output capabilities. It also needed a new power connector - so they provided a kit they purchased online for that.

S-Video is straightforward, but it is in tight spacing. So i wouldn't recommend attempting without some soldering experience.

Here's what you need:

- 26ga wire
- x2 75ohm 1/4w resistors
- 220uf 10v capacitor (for luma pin 17)
- 0.1uf capacitor (for chroma pin 12)

Wire it up like in the pics here and good to go - the multi-out will now support S-Video cables! If you don't have an RGB capable set, it's a great way to get a cleaner signal over standard composite.

Just some pics of the finished s-video mod on this little set. Cleaned up the geo just a little as a courtesy for the owner, they were just getting the mod itself done. It needed vertical adjustments around size, position, scor, and linearity - with a little horizontal push to the right.

Amazing how much better of a picture you can get when you unlock some sets full potential!

SPDT switch installed on the front panel to eaisly toggle between composite and S-Video. Drill slipped a little on the switch install though... we aren't all perfect lol 🤦‍♂️ If the owner finds a little cover door for it it'll be perfect!

Magnovox 20MS2331/17

This set was given to me by a client that I was doing other CRT work for. It was in a state of non-working disrepair, so I just wanted to get it going again. (No power, and a big hole in the side) 😅

Found some lifted pads and broken traces that were the cause of the power issue. Once that was fixed, I decided to go ahead and wired up a connection for Component and rework an existinf S-Video mod. The inputs had already been enabled in the service menu.

Took advantage of the cosmetic hole in the side for an input panel. (Didnt take a before pic, but the hole was roughly that size, just very jagged looking) Made some straight cuts, and plastic welded in the new panel once the inputs were fully assembled.

I didnt bother fixing the geo or calibrating it. (Component/Svideo could use a shift to the right) Didnt have a remote and the front buttons dont like to cooperate... 😅

But here's Component video running on an oem composite only set!
