Developer Jeff Ammons on Tuesday showed off progress on the Wake Competition Center, which will offer training for athletes in gymnastics, volleyball, soccer and ice hockey. The Carolina Hurricanes are likely to practice there.

Whether in the private sector or local government, now's a good time to find a job in the Triangle, if you have the right skills.

Given the Triangle’s hot jobs market, local governments are finding it harder to fill openings in IT jobs, skilled trades and civil engineering, among others. It helps that they offer generous benefits — and proximity to food and culture.

That's a lot of jobs, and good news for the town.

Amazon will build a distribution center at former ConAgra site in Garner. The Town Council approved a special-use permit for a four-story, 2.6-million-square-foot distribution center on Jones Sausage Road.

North Carolina prison guards planned to sue the Department of Public Safety on Monday, June 25, 2018, alleging a scheme to use sham written warnings to cheat them out of pay raises they should've received in 2016.

NC wins a big federal grant to help widen I-95, turn U.S. 70 into an interstate

Some of these road dollars will benefit Johnston County.

The N.C. Department of Transportation expects to receive $147 million in a federal grant from the Trump administration to widen part of Interstate 95 and U.S. 70 in Eastern North Carolina and install 300 miles of fiber optic cable along both highways.

3 Triangle home cooks will compete on the new season of 'MasterChef' on Fox

Two of the home cooks are from Johnston County.

Three home cooks from the Triangle will compete in season premiere of "MasterChef" on Fox. Hope McFarland of Clayton, Jody Rhodes of Four Oaks and Juni Cuevas of Raleigh. The format changes this season: judges will each guide teams through the competition.

The N.C. Department of Transportation will present detailed preliminary plans for widening N.C. 42 to four lanes from N.C. 50 east to U.S. 70 Business in Clayton at an open house meeting at the Clayton Center on Thursday evening, May 10.
