So, you woke up this morning then realized that you had forgotten that it's Mother's Day. Never fear. Women overwhelmingly compose the true crime audience. Statistically speaking, your mom probably enjoys a good grizzly story. Murder On the Menu is back for 2021. We have also added a few things, like the first brunch edition on June 19, and we're doing the story of Anna Marie Hahn, Over-the-Rhine's German femme fatale serial killer, unraveled over 4-courses of 1920s & 30s-inspired cuisine with wine pairings. Murder In November is dedicated to the memory of George Remus, King of the Bootleggers, and to the great whiskey that bears his name.

Murder In November is dedicated to George Remus, if not a good man, at least an extremely fascinating one.

Harry Baldwin, whose tragic and mysterious death we explore in Murder On The Menu, is buried in Spring Grove cemetery. The bio of Harry on the Find a Grave website thickens the mystery. The user that posted it believes that his great-great grandmother was the out-of-wedlock child of Harry and a woman named Sarah Cathryn 'Katie' McArthur. I don't know enough about this claim to have any opinion on it yet, but it's an interesting twist to the mystery. Of course, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, you probably need to come to Murder on the Menu next week: http://www.whokilledharry.com

Murder on the Menu features 19th-inspired dishes that are researched and perfectly prepared by Washington Platform Saloon & Restaurant's proprietor and chef. I have always found the cuisine absolutely fantastic, and the items that sound adventerous are usually surprisingly approachable and pretty tame. But DO NOT stay away because you're allergic to something, don't eat meat or pork, or because celery has given you nightmares since childhood. Surly as he may appear, Jon V Diebold is actually a really nice guy who is always willing to suggest and prepare menu substitutions to accomodate all dietary needs and desires. Everybody is welcome and we'll never make you feel uncomfrtable about your strained relationships with certain foods.

TONIGHT is the first monthly Murder on the Menu event at Washington Platform Saloon & Restaurant. Beginning at 6:30, we take a brief walking tour of the crime scene of Cincinnati's oldest unsolved murder case, then return to the WP for a 4-course, 19th-century inspired meal, paired with the theories, contradictions and speculation that still make this mystery a fascinating story 138 years later. More info. at http://www.saloontours.com Many people believed that Schaller Brothers Brewery would never have opened if one of it's owners had been where he belonged -- in prison for homicide.
