ARMENIANS in CINCINNATI
Armenian presence in Cincinnati dates well before the Genocide of the Armenians in 1915.
Piecing together information provided by Krikor Gayjikian in his “Martyred Armenia and the Story of My Life” published in Cincinnati, OH in 1920, the following may be surmised about the presence of the Armenians in Cincinnati.
Krikor Gayjikian was born in Gaban before the Hamidian massacre in 1895 that occurred when he was in a child. His family escaped the massacre. His siblings died due to stresses. They returned home to rebuild their shattered family life. After losing his father he went to Adana to make a living and lives through the Adana massacre of 1909. His cousin, Boghossian, who lived in Cincinnati sent him money and facitated his arrival to the Elis Island and thence to Cincinnaiti. The Boghossian family remains the earliest Cincinnati Armenian family name and places the family in Cincinnati in late 1800’s.
The following are some of the pioneering Armenian families in Cincinnati
