Your likeness mirrored in the void of my eyes
For every step of your life, I watched you
Soaking up moments of laughter and cries
While speeding through books before they come due

In the restless dark, for you, I shined bright
Soothed you to sleep with Disney lullabies.
Cinderella's dress sparkles in moonlight
played on repeat, insomnia, pain's disguise.

Even now, look up for my approval.
Hung from my head, an alter on your wall.
I know you fantasize about my removal
Fearing your children will become my thralls.

Remain in sleep, a black mirror am I,
Watch each other until the day we die

It takes no effort to notice the trees,
the creek,
the birds.
Sitting down amongst the clover
you see a whole new world.

Fear not the mud,
the dirt,
and eight legged creatures.
Praise the little yellow flowers
and bright blades of grass.
