This is my homage to one of many visually stunning scenes from “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, a delightfully charming and heartwarming drama currently on Netflix. It follows the story of a talented young lawyer on the autism spectrum who lands her first job at a top law firm in South Korea. Brilliant & quirky, but lacking the social skills necessary in her field, she tackles adversities and prejudice in a predominantly neurotypical society with the help of supportive family, friends and colleagues. Sprinkled throughout the show are recurring themes of the ocean and whales, the beloved subject of Young Woo’s obsession. Whales are often associated with solitude, compassion and uninhibited creativity — qualities that make the titular character truly unique. If you need a respite from the daily deluge of bad news, this is a must-watch show!
Late post… My latest watercolor portrait holds a special place in my heart as it now belongs to a dear childhood friend of mine. I’ve known her since Kindergarten and she was part of my “barkada” during grade school until I left for the States. Many, many years later, we would finally reconnect again as she and her growing family settled here in the US.
The cat is finally out of the bag! Back in February, I was commissioned by an old classmate and friend to do a watercolor family portrait. He planned to give it as a gift to his wife for their wedding anniversary. I was very honored to be able to create an artistic piece that serves as a true testament to the life they created as husband and wife.

Last week I went on yet another urban sketching excursion with . This time we went to Crescent Bay Beach, which offered us a stunning view of the ocean waves as they came crashing towards the shore.

Late post from February… I was killing time while waiting in the lobby as my husband underwent a wrist arthroscopy procedure a few floors up. The whole process (including pre- & post-op procedures) took several hours. I spent a majority of my waiting time sketching the activity outside those glass doors.

During the vicious showdown between The Bride (aka Black Mamba) and Elle Driver in Bud’s trailer, the Bride caught her by surprise by plucking out her one remaining eye. While Elle writhed and screamed in anger and pain, The Bride calmly walked across the trailer to retrieve her Hattori Hanzo sword. As she passed by the black mamba that killed Bud (thanks to Elle’s deceit), it recoiled in fear but did not attack. The Bride/Black Mamba slammed open the door, took one last look at Elle and quietly limped out into the desert.

I’m posting the lechon, a traditional Filipino dish served at parties, in honor of my dad’s 90th birthday. It’s a huge milestone & we’re incredibly blessed to have him in our lives. He was a scrawny teenager when he witnessed dog fights being waged in the air over the skies of the Philippines. He served in the Philippine Air Force and traveled to Thailand, the US and other countries. He and our family finally made the US our home. As colorful as his life may sound, he leads a quiet and humble life. Perhaps that is the secret to long life… Eat healthy (except during celebrations), live simply, walk humbly and love generously. ❤️

According to Greek mythology,, Prometheus stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mankind. Zeus was so upset by his treachery that he ordered Hephaestus to create Pandora, the first woman on earth, out of clay and water. The gods gave her many gifts, such as beauty, speech, musical talent, a cunning mind and curiosity. When Epimetheus fell in love and married her, Zeus sent Hermes to give her a closed container which he instructed her not to open. One day, Pandora’s curiosity finally got the best of her. She opened the jar and unintentionally released all the wickedness into the world (with the exception of Hope, which was left in the jar). In essence, Pandora was the poisoned gift that Zeus sent to mankind as punishment for Prometheus’ treachery.
NOTE: According to a translation error, Pandora’s ‘box’ is actually a container referred to as “pithos”, which is a large jar, possibly the size of a small person.
