Barbie (2023) production was brought to life with a high-contrast and stylized visual language dominated by vibrant "Fujifilm" pink tones highlighting the brilliance of plastic textures, retro-futuristic set designs, and shadowless, flat lighting embodying childhood dreams, aiming to reflect the contrast between the artificial yet perfect world of Barbieland and the complexity of real life. Director Greta Gerwig and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto opted for a striking visuality, utilizing symmetrical framing reminiscent of toy boxes, grainier and more depth-oriented filming techniques in real-world scenes, and choreographic camera movements in musical sequences to emphasize the two-dimensional feel of Barbieland and the plastic nature of the characters. This technical approach, combined with the visual harmony created by Jacqueline Durran's iconic costume designs and the "Dreamhouse" architecture of Barbieland that defies physical laws, gave every frame of the production both the seriousness of a satire and the most colorful and maximalist aesthetic of modern cinema
