Thinking with an accent -Part 2
2018. Installation. Relief print on plexiglass, video, inkjet print on acetate. Poles: 213x30cm; floor pieces: various sizes. Approximate dimensions: 30x76cm; 55x106cm.

A darkened room containing objects with archival familial documents, such as USSR and Israeli army ID cards, printed and layered upon them. The viewer activates and becomes a part of the work as abstract imagery moving through architectural space.

In the studio with Kris Schaedig

These paintings are about rebirth and reconnection and my thoughts during these were of the many ways the realness of living is obscured by noise, superficiality and the demands of a too fast-paced way of living.

Artist Kris Schaedig talks memory imbedded textiles.

Stitchings: I use bits of family textiles with the addition of embroidery to address the passing of time, the collection of history, and the life contained within these fabrics. These objects become relics, artifacts as time passes. I'm creating an alternative, transitional type of reliquary for these bits of clothing and other types of fabrics, materials that have been used by a person, by a body, that have collected the past, and a part or phase of a life.

In the studio with Kris Schaedig

Bits of nature and collecting: I'm interested in collecting, saving and the idea of gift, the ritual of collecting and/or saving meaningful things, and the reasons we do this. The last few years I've been collecting a bit of nature on the new moon of each month. For me, it's a type of active meditation, and marks the passing of time.
