Instituto Grafico de Chicago

Instituto Grafico de Chicago IGC is a printmaking group from the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago that hopes to promote the medium of printmaking through collaboration.

Instituto Gráfico de Chicago is a group of print makers that try to gather ink, paper and hard work to create great prints. We are located in Chicago, and we meet to cut blocks and ink in the Pilsen neighborhood. The Instituto Gráfico de Chicago promotes the communication and collaboration that enable the preservation and continuity of the critical – activist orientation that spearheaded Latino pr

intmaking. Similarly, it works to foster opportunities for Latino youth to engage in printmaking, and for a larger community to appreciate the importance and value of the Latino printmaking tradition.

We are especially thrilled to feature the prints of Saul Aguirre

About Saul Aguirre:

My work reflects the environment we all share, yet sometimes my Latino background draws a focus towards social awareness, which most times sits quietly in the background of our conscience. My work is based on collaboration with society. It creates a reaction from those that observe, reminding them of the injustices in our communities, cities, states, countries, and sometimes the world. The responsibility as an artist is to reflect all that surrounds us and make us aware by bringing out our most hidden images from within our subconscious.

We are especially thrilled to feature the prints of Hoofprint

About Hoofprint:

We are collaborative printers based in Chicago. We work with artists who like to draw. The processes we use—lithography, relief, etching and screenprinting (and now graphic ceramic techniques!)—extend new possibilities to preserve and transform the artist’s marks. Creating multiples allows us to sell the original work we produce at an affordable price. Print partners Liz Born and Gabe H***e founded Hoofprint in 2012.

Gabe H***e is a Chicago-based artist working primarily in lithography. His work is a reflection of the absurd world we inhabit. Anthropomorphic tugboats, animals, and mutated fast food touch upon themes of greed, gluttony and ignorance.

Liz Born is a Chicago-based printmaker and ceramicist. Her drawings feature defiant figures, hands on hips. Her work has been displayed at venues including The Chicago Cultural Center and Jane Addams Hull House Museum.

We are especially thrilled to feature the prints of Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative

Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative is a decentralized network of 41 artists committed to social, environmental, and political engagement. With members working from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, Justseeds operates both as a unified collaboration of similarly minded printmakers and as a loose collection of creative individuals with unique viewpoints and working methods. We believe in the transformative power of personal expression in concert with collective action. To this end, we produce collective portfolios, contribute graphics to grassroots struggles for justice, work collaboratively both in- and outside the co-op, build large sculptural installations in galleries, and wheatpaste on the streets—all while offering each other daily support as allies and friends.

Chicago Printers Guild was organized in 2009 to unite printmakers (and print lovers) across the Chicagoland area through lectures, workshops, artist talks, site visits, and exhibitions. We strive to bridge the gap between commercial and fine art printing by building on a shared appreciation of Chicago’s rich printmaking past to ensure our city continues to be one of the most prolific and respected printmaking centers in the nation.
