This is garnet. A rich, beautiful, wintry, earthy red stone that turns out is a b #*%+ to try photograph with any kind of accuracy or integrity. Hmmmmph. Oh well. Don’t just take my word for it. Go see how lovely these stones are in person at the Vintage Northern Treasures show at happening now!

Side note- if you haven’t watched Steven Universe (show the accompanying music is from) and gotten invested in Steven’s shenanigans with the Crystal Gems, you should probably remedy that straight away. My youngest and I watched the series together years ago and it is heartbreakingly charming. Do it. Now. You’re welcome.

Big old restock of some favorites in the run up to this weekend at the DECC, including these ever popular Boho hoops. I’ve got them in sterling and 14k gold filled, large and small. Whatever your choice, you are sure to tap into your inner 70s goddess when you wear them. At least, I definitely do. Come see me in cabin #13 at Gourd Days this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 10-4. I’ll very likely be rocking a pair of hoops and you can see for yourself!

These earrings have been consuming my thoughts lately. The trick in designing them was to create a series of independent circles moving in harmony that were inextricably linked. It was only as I was working out the problem that I realized I was not only creating a piece of jewelry. I was also essentially puzzling out this next chapter of my own life in a sort of moving meditation. So many circles in this sandwichy part of life. How DO they all stay solidly linked together yet managing to move freely whilst maintaining harmony? Not sure I have all the answers yet, but I did get a lovely earring out of all that skull sweat. 😉

The circle. That most ancient symbol with meaning rooted in unity, harmony, and wholeness that has a sense of movement that contains energy and power. It’s a good one. And, a shape I return to often in my work because of both that inherent juju that just feels good to wear, but also because it’s a shape that just *looks* good to wear, too. Has anyone ever looked bad in a pair of hoop earrings?!?! I think not.

I’ve been in my studio pondering the excellent circle and designing new earrings around it. I’m really loving what’s been happening and I’m excited to share them with y’all. I’ll be bringing this collection with me next weekend to the Fall Fest on Saturday 9/20. I adore Chester Bowl. Many years ago my family learned to ski there through their program which provides ski equipment to children and adults for the entire winter season at incredibly affordable prices or even for free through their scholarship program if a family has need. Chester Bowl also provides free ski and snowboard lessons for children and adults. My crew started our ski journey there many years ago and that program set us on a path to our love of skiing big mountains together which is truly one of the great shared joys of my people. So, come on down to Chester Bowl Fall Fest next Saturday. You’ll see these beautiful new earrings, shop a bunch of talented artisans and vendors, AND get to support one of the best community programs I know. Win, win, win. ♥️

Looking for some help from my artist and creator friends…and/or anyone with applicable insight. It’s high time I moved away from Etsy to a more professional and sophisticated dedicated website. It’s been a goal of mine for a while but it’s been easy enough to push it off. I finally put it on the “must do” list this winter. I’ve done a fair amount of research but am still waffling about which website builder to use to both build and maintain the site and I’d love to hear your thoughts! I use Square to invoice and something that integrates with that seamlessly would be nice. But also, I’d love for it to be a fairly intuitive and idiot proof process. My own “I can do anything” attitude (which mostly serves me well…except for when it doesn’t) has sort of been getting in my way here. I don’t really *want* to spend a ton of my personal time and energy building a website but I won’t pass the responsibility off or pay for someone else to do it because I know that I *CAN* do it myself. It’s a me problem. I have some pretty new sparklies that I’ve been working on (like these lovely long silver dangles pictured above) that deserve a chance to get out in the world and I won’t be doing any in person shows until later into the Spring/Summer. So, help, please!

Y’all are feeling the heavy weight of all the things, too, yes? Well, I had a slightly ridiculous moment in the studio this week that made me laugh (at myself) and thought I’d share and bring that lightness out into the world. I was working on a new design and playing around with line and form. Sometimes when making art you are thinking about the elements of art and principles of deign to make something beautiful. Sometimes you subvert those principles to create something interesting. And sometimes simply messing around with them can turn what once was a fairly minimalist and maybe even a tad art nouveau earring into…an unintentional luchador mask. 😬 Whoops! Swipe right and you’ll see what I mean. You can’t unsee it once you’ve seen it! The curved/forged version of this earring is likely headed to the scrap heap- but it was good to laugh!

My online presence certainly has been sparse this year, but it’s okay. I’m better in person anyway. 😉 That said, there are still two opportunities to see me and my work out and about this season. First off will be this Saturday at Bent Paddle Brewing for their Taps and Tinsel Market. It’s a new event but part of the greater Lincoln Park Winter Market happening at a number of Lincoln Park locations and I’m really looking forward to it. Then on Sunday is maybe my favorite event of the year. Come visit me and some of my incredibly talented artist friends at my home and studio for a cozy and chill afternoon of shopping and hanging out. This day really serves as an opportunity for us as artists to spend some laid back time together with each other at the end of a hectic season but also to share it with our patrons as sort of a customer appreciation. It’s a really great day. So come join us!

Look around, leaves are brown…and at this point in November already covered by a light blanket of snow up here in the Northland. This hazy shade of winter can only signal one thing- the onset of the holiday shopping season and a wild couple weeks in the life of an artist. I’ve learned that my enjoyment of this season can be much diminished if I overextend myself this time of year and so over the last few years I’ve winnowed down the events that I participate in. But fear not, there absolutely are a couple of chances to come see me in person and to check out the pretty sparklies I have on hand (and to try them on!) before Christmas and Hanukkah arrive. Tomorrow kicks things off with Small Budiness Saturday at BB & Friends. Anna and Nathanael are great hosts and it’s always a lovely event for patrons snd artisans alike! Plus, free fresh made doughnuts!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out for the studio tour. It was such a lovely weekend. The weather was undeniably gorgeous, but the true beauty of this event is the lovely pace of things and the chance to slow down and take time to chat and connect. Plus, I had the most excellent of studio mates in and Melanie of . Sarah was a generous host and her studio space is an artist’s dream come true. The show this past weekend also was an opportunity to debut this most recent collaboration with . Abby cut these unbelievable Royal Imperial Jasper cabochons. It is always wild to me that these color combinations and almost painting like features just exist in nature. Brought to us, of course, but Abby’s artistry in stone cutting. The pendant is a truly beautiful statement piece (I’m especially digging the split bail design-a first for me!) and the ring is its perfect companion.

I’ve had some upper respiratory crud kicking my butt, but I’m on the mend now and managed to finish up some lovely turquoise and sterling silver shield rings in anticipation of the Lake Superior 20/20 Studio & Art Tour that starts tomorrow. I’ll have them with me at Sarah Brokke’s studio Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It’s going to be lovely weather for a drive up the shore and a road trip to some incredible artists’ studios!

I met a client earlier this year at the Edina Art Fair. She purchased some jewelry from me but was inspired by the agate rings I had on hand and asked me to undertake a little project. 50 years ago she had set this agate in the adjustable brass setting picture here on the side as a class project in grade school. She’d kept it all this time but never wore it anymore. We decided that together we could remedy that! So, I left the show with her old ring and when I was able to work through my customs queue I got her sorted with a simple but sweet sterling silver setting that gives this meaningful stone new life and a new place in her jewelry wardrobe. It was fun to take something old and make it new again. But also, can we talk about what a cool class art project that was?!?! Anyway, I hope that in its new form this ring can now be worn for many many years in health and happiness!

Take a peep at these earthy Deadwood Jasper pieces from the Owyhee region! The lovely Abby of cut these pretties and I love the neutral but dynamic quality of the striations and banding that she captured. Similar to the Silkstone I posted about recently, I purchased a mini collection of cabochons of this material from Abby and worked them up as a whole. It’s a fun way to get to know a stone and while it’s my first time working with it, I kind of fell in love with this material. Earthy. Elegant. Neutral. What’s not to love? I’ll be bringing these with me to the events I have going on this September. That starts with the shared pop up that Abby and I are doing at this Saturday from 10-2. They’re even better in person and you might find yourself falling in love just a little bit, too!
