I don’t post a lot about photo competitions, but this one means something to me. As a member of PPANI (Professional Photographers Association of Northern Illinois), I take part in their annual professional print competitions where we submit our work to be judged by other professionals in the industry.
I enter for one reason.... to learn.
My friends and clients will tell me my work is great....Competition Judges...not so much! They look at the technical aspects (lighting, composition, impact), and the tiny details most people would never notice. Out of 8 entries, all 8 did well - With 4 of them earning a President’s award...and I was surprised. I absolutely love what I do and although it is hard to have your photos be discussed while not being able to explain to the judges your thought process for each shot, there is still something energizing about doing well in a competition like this.
Pushing myself not only helps me get better, but it benefits every Athlete, Senior, Family, Team, and organization that trusts me to photograph something important to them. I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed being present in each moment with my camera.
