“The need to develop Damaged Goods came from an urge to create a narrative full of flawed and multi-dimensional characters of color. As a q***r person of color, I was exhausted by not seeing characters that represented the beautiful community of artists I knew in the city I was raised in, Chicago. The ultimate goal of Damaged Goods is to celebrate characters whose stories are usually used as side pieces in mainstream media. The four nuanced characters, their lives, and the situations they get into is a reflection of a gritty creative community we rarely get to see on screen. I want to capture how revolutionary these stories can be in today’s society, and validate that our voices have a rightful place in the media. Qu**rs & POC are so much more nuanced than mainstream media give us credit for so I wanted to make Damaged Goods less about facing tragedies & more about these characters leaning on each other & their chosen families.” - Vincent Martell (Director, Co-Writer)
