So... Here's the thing. For work, I have a bunch of supplies and materials. Not a ton, but enough to warrant my need for a storage unit. Several years ago, I found one at CubeSmart Self Storage in Waukegan right off the intersection of Belvidere and Green Bay. It was centrally located to me. It is 10' X 10". Nothing fancy... No climate control... Just a cube with a lock and a garage door. It was $68 a month which seemed like a fine price. Not great, but not out of bounds. As time has gone on, there have been rate increases like every 6 months or so. It was usually around $10 - $15. At first it wasn't a big deal... But, now... After several years, my rental cost is now approx. $175 a month. I called them and asked them how much it would cost me, if I were a new customer, to rent a storage unit with the same specs that I have now. And... It would be $83 a month. So... what this means is that CubeSmart Self Storage is simply raising my rental fee JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN. That's it. Not the economy... not inflation... nothing. JUST. BECAUSE. THEY. CAN. And just so CubeSmart Self Storage is aware... Punishing your customers who consistently pay on time every month for years is definitely a really sh*tty business model. And in Business 101, it is a known and accepted fact that keeping a customer is far easier than losing a customer and trying to win them back.

So, CubeSmart Self Storage, please be aware that as soon as I can find a different storage company that meets my criteria, I will be gladly packing up my stuff and moving it out of your facility. And not only will I never darken the doors of any of your establishments, I will make it my mission to make certain that every single person I know and every single stranger I engage with on social media is aware of your company and your truly awful and sh*tty business practices.

So... Believe it or not, but I truly try to not be petty about most things in life... Unfortunately, that is not the case today in this moment.

Remember when I had a job in the summer designing costumes for, what I thought was, an amazing organization. I worked for them for many years and I always had a brilliant time and it was honestly one of my favorite things I got to do every year. I was able to elevate their costumes to a whole new level and continuously received praise from parents and patrons and guests telling me that they had never seen the show look so good. It always warmed my heart and made me feel incredibly successful.

And then, in November of 2022 I was unceremoniously let go over the phone and was told the reason was because I lived too far away. The truth of the matter is that I actually do not live too far away and was NEVER told that I needed to be there more often than I was. Had I been made aware that it was an issue, I would have made certain that I was there more often. After I received that call, I was pretty devastated and I reached out to my "boss." They wrote back to tell me that they were sorry and that they would reach out soon and try and explain everything to me. They ended up saying this twice and I never heard from them again.

And out of all of my coworkers that I had created lovely relationships over the years, only one reached out to express how sad they were over my being let go and believed that the organization made a huge mistake.

This organization works with kids who are aged 15-20 and with that, there are many rules and regulations to follow that are pretty obvious. But there is a person who works there that I know for certain has admittedly provided alcohol to minors in the past. This was outside the parameters of the organization, but it has happened, nonetheless. And yet, they still have their job.

And what chaps my ass is that they still have the gall to send me promotional things in the mail begging for my money. C'mon... If you are gonna fire me for stupid, bu****it reasons, at least have the common sense to remove me from your mailing list.

They have no idea how much I was devastated by this and every time I get mail from them simply reminds me of what I am missing out on. They talk A LOT about how everyone who works for this organization is now part of an ever-growing family... I really believed that they meant that. I guess I was wrong.
