A week ago, I said goodbye to my big beautiful baby boy Sundae "Sunny" 😺. He was my constant companion for 10 years and last Friday we ended our journey in this life and sent to eternal sleep, him onward to the next where I hope to meet him again in Jannah (eternal paradise).

Over the years I made him different things, in both sickness and in health. 5 years ago, I made him a 4 poster bed (because I had one too). It has a canopy on top that served as a hammock and was cushioned on top and bottom so I could flip it to be raised up higher or lower to the ground. He slept on it all three ways.

When he had his leg amputation in 2022 (to remove a tumor), i made him a little cover so he wouldn't lick his wound without having to use the cone of shame. It ended up being used again when his brother Tux had a bad case of ringworm.

I also made him a small blanket from sunflower fleece fabric so he had something soft to sit on when I put him on the suitcase (because the bed was too high for him while he was recovering from his surgery).

I made him a cat sling (which he hated lol but his brother enjoyed).

When I knew it would be time to let him go, I made him shrouds (like pillowcases) from flannel fabric I had gotten from Joann in its final days (rip). It was soft, cute and cozy like him 🥰

Friends came by to see him. One friend gave me a cat planter that I colored to look like Sunny; I used it as his grave marker.

We took him to his doctor for the last time. I was glad it was the doctor who had done his surgery and given him a second chance at life that gave him his peace. He was buried a few hours later in a friend's yard with flower bulbs and seeds.

May we all be reunited with all our loved ones, human and non-human, in Jannatul Firdaus. May they bear witness for us for the love we have them. May they be a continuous charity for us and the care we have them weigh heavily on our scales. Ameen 🤲🏽

I miss him dearly. There's much to say about his life but I'll save that for another time.

Happy Friday and the unofficial end of summer. It's over 90 degrees here still and I'm about to go enjoy one last dip in the pool so I thought it fitting to share some of the swim stuff I've made in the last couple of years starting with the most recent:

Strawberry sequined capelet! 😍

This capelet was handmade with love from this absolutely gorgeous sequined mesh fabric. It will be auctioned off to help support the people of 🍉, specifically 🍓. The 🍓 represents G because prior to the jennyside, they produced so many strawberries.

I added black ribbon to the edges of the capelet to add a nice hem and to have it contain all the colors of the 🍉 flag. It looks best worn on an all white outfit and as the statement piece to show subtle solidarity while still dressing up. 💃🏽💅🏽✨ Lace lines the collar. The biggest challenge with this was figuring out how to make it into a circle. I only had 3/4 of a yard of it since it was a remnant. Alhamdulillah I got the divine inspiration to make it work! 🤲🏽 It twirls, wee! 😄

The outfit I'm wearing under the capelet was what I wore to my Qalam graduation this year. 🤍

Everything fleece!!

People who sew will always say "i already have too much fabric" and yet we will almost always end up buying more 🫣

From 2022-23 I got a little 🤏🏽 but carried away with fleece that I found for amazingly good deals. I found myself overwhelmed and set some lofty goals to dispense with them one way or another. As anyone who plans can attest, life hardly goes as planned.

Last year I made 22 blankets (maybe more) and sold about 29 yards of fleece.

This year i made:

17 adult robes
20 kids hoodies
25 (maybe more i forgot 😂) scarves
18 (maybe more) pairs of slippers. Some matched the hoodies!

And sold over 60 yards of fabric 🫣🫠🫠

It's finally chilly 🥶 here in DFW so this is the perfect time for this kind of stuff.

All of the items, except for some of the slippers, were donated to .ros

The HP slippers are available for purchase. Proceeds go to helping me live my life 🥲

...more blankets for a cause!

While our hearts and eyes are on "Watermelon country" and we do what we can to help them, there are plenty of those in need right in our own cities. It's getting cold in the DFW area and there are many people in need of winter items who can't afford it. I've contacted .ros and pledged to make as many items as I can to be distributed to refugees. I'll be making, washing and dropping them off, but I need help in the form of sponsorship. This helps me be able to do dedicate my time towards these endeavors and efforts and avoids giving money to big corporations. It is a win-win for both of us. 🥹

I've also been contacting other organizations to diversify the distribution to the other populations in need. If you know of any, let me know!

I have 11 blankets to donate thus far. I'll be making scarves, slippers and robes (to get a bit of a break from blanket making) and then more blankets later, God willing.

I support Palestine, its people, their freedom and liberation. I support their right to basic human rights and dignity. I stand against oppression no matter who is doing it. I stand against the k-lling of innocent men and women and children no matter who they are or who is committing it.

It is so rewarding and joyous for me to hear such beautiful words said about my makings and me. 🥰🥹 For a creative, knowing how much someone enjoys and USES the things made just for them is so fulfilling, whether it's a gift or commission.

It helps me to keep going and also work on improving my craft, I am always learning and trying to apply it to make sure the craftsmanship displays the hard work and thought put into it. 😄😄😄
