A Light in the Darkness

In continuation of yesterday’s post, here are the remaining pieces in the collection. While the profits from the large multi candle piece will specifically go to NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund (LDF), there are five organizations I have identified (including the LDF!) that the profits of these smaller candles can go to. When you buy a piece, you get to choose which organization to donate to! All organizations included have the goal of improving inclusion and support for groups that have historically suffered from discrimination.

I’ve only included the names of the organizations here but check out their pages to learn more. Even if you can’t buy one right now, I would still encourage you to look into the work these groups are doing!

While I only have three small candles completed at this time, if they are all purchased I will make more. Nothing would make me happier than to make a million candles to support these amazing organizations!!

A Light in the Darkness

When I was creating this collection I could not decide if it was a collection of loneliness and darkness or one of hope and light. However, as I continued to work, while watching all that is going on in the world right now, I realized that it could not be one without the other. They show the isolation and struggle so many face each day but also symbolize the brightness each individual has to offer. These paintings are a story of the hope that we have for change and for bettering our world, while realizing how far we are from that end goal.

Therefore, the profits from this collection will go towards pursuing this goal of change. In light of the current dire situation we are in, the profits of this piece, the largest in the collection, will be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) in order to support Black Lives Matter. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans.
