AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT!

The Greater Theater Company is holding auditions for its upcoming production of Noel Coward’s classic comedy HAY FEVER!

Auditions are Monday, May 11, and Tuesday, May 12, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Unity Lutheran Church, 1212 W. Balmoral Ave., Chicago, IL. It is not necessary to schedule a specific appointment to audition.

Rehearsals will start May 26 and will take place on most Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 7:00-9:30 p.m. in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Rehearsal schedule may be different the week of the show; actors should be available any evening August 24 through the show dates.

Performances will be August 27, 28 and 29 (evening) and August 30 (matinee) at The Edge Theater, 5451 N. Broadway, Chicago, IL

Auditions are being held only for the following roles:

Judith Bliss: F appear 40s. Judith is a glamorous and attractive former diva of the stage, who is having some trouble coming to terms with retirement to a quiet existence in the country with her husband and children. She is always performing, and will manufacture drama if necessary to get her daily requirement.

David Bliss: M appear 40s-early 50s. A somewhat self-absorbed novelist. Judith’s husband. More even-keeled than Judith, but not above occasional machinations and real-life drama.

Myra Arundel: F appear 30s-40s. A stylish “older woman” engaged in a dalliance with the Blisses’ son, described by Judith as a “vampire” who “goes about using s*x as a sort of sh*****ng net.”

Clara: F appear 50s-60s. Originally Judith’s dresser; now a classic spunky British housekeeper. Not a conventional servant.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script. The script is widely available on line or upon request we can send you a pdf copy. Actors should either possess or be able to emulate a British accent (gentry for Judith, David and Myra; lower class for Clara).
Resume and headshot appreciated but not required.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of JT Tarbox, a valued member of the Greater Theater Company family. JT previously shared his talent with us in Trifles and was also set to join us in our recent production of Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles.

We dedicated this show to him, holding close the wish that he could have been on stage with us. JT was truly talented, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working with him.

Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

Rest in peace, JT. Your light and artistry will not be forgotten.🤍

ACT II photo dump, The Importance of Being Earnest (June 2025) 🎭✨
Act II turned up the chaos in the garden, where secrets unraveled, identities blurred, and Wilde’s wit bloomed even sharper. Between unexpected confessions, romantic entanglements, and perfectly timed comedy, this act kept the stakes high and the laughs coming. 🌿
So proud of the cast for leaning into every twist, turn, and delightfully absurd moment. Thank you again to everyone who shared this journey with us last summer and continues to support our work.
Act III coming soon… 🥀
