Meet Woman of Song Percussionist: Cindy Vish
Originally from Pittsburgh PA, Cindy’s passion her whole life has been music. She is self taught and only began playing out professionally in 2013, where she started out co hosting regular monthly and bi weekly Jam Nites in Pittsburgh for 3 years, playing a drumkit, and percussion, (and occasionally sang.)
She then joined two bands, one a Zydeco blues band called Gr**go Zydeco, playing the Washboard, or as its originally known in French -the “Frottoir” , as well as the Congas and played full kit on a few songs. She also played the drums for with Billy Rapp and the Messengers, with an improvised custom designed “kit “ using the Cajon and high hat and bongos. She has played Percussion with Pittsburgh Women of the Blues at a few events, and has sat in with numerous bands popular in the Pittsburgh area over the past several years, as well as performing in acoustic duos with some local musicians. She just moved back to FL 4 months ago and currently plays acoustic duos with Lisa Noe and also with DeLaran occasionally. Her percussion influences are of the r&b soul, and latin rhythm but also plays many other genres including classic rock, blues, pop, oldies, country, and originals (other people’s).
