Closing Remarks

She used to tell me that this was her last show.
She kept saying that this was her last curtain call.
Why did she fall?
Dragging her feet on stage,
She looked at the audience and saw everyone and no one at the same time.
She was ready to jump—why didn’t she?
The show can’t continue if the main character is gone.
Who decided she needed another season in this s**t show?

At the edge of the stage, she looked back.
At the edge of the stage, she looked back.
At the edge of the stage, she looked back.
What was she waiting for?

The director says, “Cut!”
The director says, “Cut!”
The director says, “Cut!”
There are no cut scenes in life.

So, who was she supposed to be if this was all in her head?
Ready for the bloopers? None were found.
Everyone clapped in the audience as she stood on stage.
She stood on stage with dark circles and an empty heart,
Emotionless eyes, she decided to jump off stage.
That was her final curtain call.

In slow motion, the shadow asked, “Was it worth it?”

Samyra R. is half-way through her college career with the support of our Good Citizen Scholarship. Majoring in mass communications with a minor in creative writing, she's already a published author of three non-fiction books and numerous poems!
