Lo sapevate che....

Il nome Ferragosto deriva dal latino Feriae Augusti (riposo di Augusto), una festività istituita nel 18 a.C. dall'imperatore romano Ottaviano Augusto. Nasceva come periodo di riposo e di feste alla fine dei grandi lavori agricoli, originariamente celebrato all'inizio del mese. Nel corso del VII secolo, la Chiesa cattolica ha sovrapposto la ricorrenza pagana alla festività religiosa dell'Assunzione di Maria, fissata proprio al 15 agosto.
