DnJ’s first run through North Africa 41 by GMT Games. To be honest, Doc may not have advanced the Italian armor column far enough to score more than a single VP at the end of turn 2. Needless to say, the 5th Light Panzer division made short work in securing the port of Benghazi and the airfield at Benina. The trade off has been a developing supply shortage (the British submarines played havoc with shipping from Italy to Tripoli.)

Meanwhile, the Allies have begun a rapid retreat toward Tobruk. Tobruk is a little short on supplies at the moment in order to shore up the fortifications.

This game is sooooo good !!!! Having to account for shipping attacks in the Mediterranean, keeping supply lines running, looking for air support, all the while issuing combat orders … wow, what an excellent experience!!

DnJ’s will pick back up tomorrow night at the start of the second Allied impulse phase. Tobruk is going to get very busy.

The date is March 16th. Italian forces have already attempted an invasion of Egypt. Erwin Rommel will soon begin a campaign that will strike fear in the Allied forces. Rommel’s Panzer IIIF’s and IIIG’s will soon remind the Allies why they fear the Africa Corps.

Supply lines must be established. Air support is badly needed on both sides of this bloody conflict. The desert is an unforgiving oven to both man and machine. George Patton is at least a year away from teaching both Rommel and the British General Montgomery how tank combat should conducted.

This is World War II. DnJ’s welcomes all of our followers to NORTH AFRICA ‘41 !!!!!

In DnJ’s corner of the multiverse, the Viet Cong and NVA launched the Tet Offensive on January 1, 1968 (NOT 1969). Saigon fell to the VC/NVA forces on September 15, 1968. It was a very bloody war with high numbers of casualties suffered by all sides.

Ok, so … “Save: South Vietnam” by Fortress Games is an absolutely fantastic look at the Vietnam War from 1965 through 1975. We hesitate to call anything concerning the Vietnam War “fun”. With that in mind, SSV delivers an incredible challenge for the tabletop gamer. It’s one thing to put strength v strength into battle. SSV goes well beyond that, in that the player MUST consider political ramifications just as much (if not more than) combat units and their strengths. An excellent word to describe SSV is “Immersive”.

We can highly recommend SSV to any of our followers!! No, there are no magical rings, nor magical monsters in this game. Oh, there are monsters, to be sure 😎 Games like SSV also serve an even better purpose, in that they will also provide more educational opportunities than the player may realize.

It is March 8, 1965. The 3rd Marines have sent the 9th Regiment to help establish a base of operations in Danang. A unit of Huey UH-1’s provide air cover, and the 173rd Airborne Brigade has also joined the US forces.

Not much is left of the ARVN. The NVA have used the Ho Chi Minh trail to break into the highlands along South Vietnam’s western border. For now, Saigon is relatively quiet. That will change.

Once again, it is time for DnJ’s to turn back the calendar and SAVE: SOUTH VIETNAM!!!

At 63 years old, Doc has a good memory, especially when it comes to DnJ’s hobbies of “war gaming”. From Doc: “I distinctly remember buying Avalon Hill’s Midway, Tobruk and Africa Corps. This would be circa of 1975-1977. My memories of first painting miniature figures stems from high school, when we played D&D on quite the regular basis”.

“This weekend, I found a very old photo that I thought did not exist!! The photo below is perhaps my very first attempt at painting miniature figures. Meet Paul Stanley, Peter Criss, Ace Frehley and Gene Simmons. The stage was made from a box, the risers and speakers were made from balsa wood, and I cannot remember what the figures were … perhaps army figures?? This diorama had to have been made in 1977ish.”

Anyways, DnJ’s hope you enjoy this glimpse into the start of an incredible 50 years of “war gaming.

Here at DnJ’s, we are setting the calendars back to January of 1965. The Second IndoChina War has been dragging on for nearly 10 year s at this point. United States President Lyndon B Johnson is determined to get involved in what would amount to a proxy of the Cold War being fought in South East Asia.

The first US troops will be arriving shortly. There is very little left of the South Vietnamese Army. The NVA and the VC are gaining political stature, and they are determined to turn South Vietnam into a communist country. Can DnJ’s make the correct strategy calls? Can DnJ’s … Save: South Vietnam ! ??

“Commander … We’ve found the debris field from the Strike.”

We’ll call this one “The Zaku who got lucky”. It was a lot of fun hacking up the shield and the right arm from (what would have been) the Aile Strike Gundam. Doc had been considering the idea of a debris field for a couple of days, then our great friend Wesley Henderson suggested the idea in a comment from another post.

Once the idea was set, we just had fun with this model ❤️.

Cagalli Yula Athha… Skygrasper … Taking Off !!

This is a model of the Skygrasper from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. It is intended to be used for the very soon to be released game Gundam Assemble by Bandai. We exclusively used our fantastic Monument Hobbies Pro Acryl, AMP and Wizard’s Butt paints, along with our Pro Sable and Pro Synthetic brushes.

Huge thanks to our friends at Gear Gaming Birmingham for keeping us in good supply for our modeling and painting needs!! Y’all are the best❤️
