Sometimes when you are going so much it’s easy to forget where you’ve been. In these weeks and months preparing for Miss Virginia, I’ve been reflecting a lot on my life… I’ve come realize that Meals on Wheels and Senior Services Inc. of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County is where my music therapy journey began.
When I was in my undergraduate studies at University of North Carolina School of the Arts , I wanted to find a way to use my voice in the community and in a less high pressure environment. I connected with Rebecca Nussbaum and was awarded an Artist Fellowship with UNCSA’s UNCSA ArtistCorps. I volunteered with Meals on Wheels every week throughout my four years of school, delivering meals and a song 🎵🎶. I would even put together concert tours to local retirement homes! These experiences gave my music purpose and made me realize I was put on this earth to share my gifts with everyone. During my time, I learned about Music Therapy and knew it was my next step in education. Here we are now 🤓. Thank you Senior Services for spotlighting me and for making a big difference in my life!
Throughout her four years as a student Grace shared her time and vocal talent as a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer! The recipients were filled with joy as she delivered each meal with a song—showing why we say, “It’s more than a meal!” Today, she is a Miss Virginia contestant, aspiring opera singer, and future music therapist.
