It's no secret there's been whispers in the Nigerian music industry concerning signs of Afrobeats as a genre's potential global decline. Many major artists have struggled to sell out tour venues - and many of our favorite artists have had to cancel dates more often than we're used to in 2025.

Truthfully, there hasn't been a global "Afrobeats" hit since 2023 at the heights we've seen stars like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema or Davido reach. But streaming numbers paint a different picture.

The 2024 Loud & Clear report shows that 1.1 million hours were streamed from Nigerian Afrobeats artists, with users creating over 250 million playlist ft. Afrobeats artist. Over one billion Afrobeats artists were discovered by first time listeners in 2024.

This provides a mixed picture - artists face challenges with ticket sales while being streamed more than ever. The answer may be about perceived value.

Artists booking fees have gone up exponentially, as well as ticket prices to watch our favorite artist perform live. The popularity of the genre and the rise artist booking fees - leading to higher ticket and entrance fees correlates IMO.
