Beautiful new frames for two of my pieces done by . I wanted a shadow-box floater effect to showcase the beauty of these large alcohol ink originals. Didn’t do an amazing job? Aren’t they simply lovely? I am absolutely ecstatic with the work this shop does and recommend them for all my fellow artist friends. And if you’re in Mooresville, check out my oyster painting in their shop for purchase!

If flowers were made of sorbet, this would be the first scoop!
🍧🌸

I’m currently lost in the first coats of this large-scale piece, and the colors are honestly looking delicious enough to eat. But as I dive deeper into these pinks, I’m realizing that capturing the “sweetness” of a flower is only half the battle.

Georgia O’Keeffe is the inspo for this new WIP. She didn’t just want us to look at a flower; she wanted us to experience it—to feel its personality, its sumptuousness, its quiet, unfolding power.

To be honest, finding that depth is proving to be a lot more difficult than I anticipated. I’ve had to redraw these curves several times just to get the rhythm right. There are more petals here than I know what to do with!

I’m tackling them one by one, layer by layer. It’s a slow process of building up that velvet texture and “sugar-spun” light, but the colors are finally on point. There are still many layers to go before this bloom is fully served!

I am overflowing with gratitude and incredibly excited to announce that I have been awarded an Artist Support Grant from ! This is truly a blessing, and I extend my deepest thanks to everyone involved in making this program possible. This grant is a crucial step in realizing a long-held goal: creating a solo exhibition featuring my calming, nature-inspired artwork in Charlotte-area hospitals.

My inspiration for this specific project is deeply personal. More recently, witnessing my dear husband Andy’s journey through heart surgery highlighted the immense stress and anxiety families experience when visiting loved ones in a hospital setting. It became profoundly clear to me how vital moments of peace and comfort are during such challenging times. This grant will allow me to create a whole new body of work inspired by the serene beauty and incredible natural landscape of North Carolina. My intention is for these pieces to offer visitors a calming visual refuge—a moment to breathe, find comfort, and perhaps even experience a small sense of healing.

The Artist Support Grant program—administered by ASC and made possible by the North Carolina Arts Council—is invaluable. These grants fund professional and artistic development, helping artists like me enhance our skills and share our creativity across the region.

Thank you to every single person who has supported me through my family’s healing and my art journey. I look forward to paying this blessing forward through my creative contributions, sharing the restorative power of nature with my community when they need it most.

Though autumn is here, I’m diving back into the glow for my next painting: a lowland marsh sunset.

I choose to explore this moment—late afternoon/evening—because of its visual intensity and quiet solitude. I’m fascinated by how the sinking sun makes colors appear more saturated, giving the entire scene a luminescent, internal glow.

At this time the world quietens, the light softens, and the water still retains the day’s heat. This piece is an attempt to capture that feeling of warmth and peace.

What do you think I should I name it when finished?

I wasn’t going to submit to because it’s really a long shot, but after talking with several artists at the show today I was inspired to submit too! And who knows? I might just get lucky!

I’m a firm believer in creating your own luck. Have you ever entered or submitted for something and been blown away when you were selected? Wishing good luck to all that have entered! 🍀

The boys are home! Colin and Connor hadn’t seen Muffin and Marley since they left for . For the first three weeks after leaving for school, the dogs sat at the front door waiting. We took them for walks, but sometimes found both dogs lying on the boys beds, looking out the window for them. Today’s reunion was beyond precious! 🐕 🐕
