SNEAKING IN AN UPDATE … A few weeks ago, we told you about Miss Mount Holly Jaime Logan collecting gently-used sneakers for Got Sneakers USA to raise money for Mount Holly Parks and Recreation’s youth sports program. She sent all of the shoes to Got Sneakers USA in Florida and just received a check for $438 to benefit the youth sports program in Mount Holly.

Additionally, this spring, Jaime volunteered her time to serve as a coach for a youth soccer team. What a great opportunity to show children in Mount Holly that they belong in sports.

Yes, she is Miss Mount Holly, but across town and in her community, Jaime is known as the “soccer coach who wears a crown!”

We LOVED our time at Springfest in downtown Mount Holly! What a great hometown festival for meeting nice people, enjoying delicious food, and taking in some great music. Many thanks to city council member David Moore for getting us a booth right in the middle of the action. As the saying goes, “A great time was had by all!”

GOT SHOES? Miss Mount Holly Jaime Logan has been collecting gently-used shoes for Got Sneakers USA to raise money for the Mount Holly Parks and Recreation’s youth athletics program. She collects the shoes, sends them to Got Sneakers USA in Florida, and the organization pays for each pair based on quality, brand, style, etc. So far, she’s collected 175 pairs, which means money, money, money for Mount Holly. The fundraising effort is part of Jaime’s community service initiative that focuses on the importance of inclusion in sports. Miss Mount Holly 2023

THANK YOU, CATHY! Today, our thoughts are with Cathy Layton-Aupied and her daughter, Martine, as they make a cross-country trek from Gastonia to Las Vegas. We have known since October that our 2023 pageant would be Cathy’s last show with us as our choreographer and producer, a role that she has done so very well for 21 years!

Saying that Cathy put on some great shows is an understatement – we’ve had awesome dance numbers, outstanding featured entertainers, cool lighting effects, fun staging and props, and an overall production that we think has been among the best for local preliminaries. During a “Wonder Woman” swimsuit production years ago, we made it seem that Miss Gastonia was landing on the stage from high above. We even got Cathy to agree to a country music-themed show (country for the whole pageant happened only once, but she did agree to some Dolly-inspired songs in other years).

When we first asked Cathy to consider coming on board with us, she was reluctant to be involved with a “beauty pageant.” We promised that she could put together a contemporary, upbeat, and fun show, and she did just that every single year. We are grateful for her creativity, big-picture vision, flexibility, and attention to detail. Her responsiveness, can-do attitude, friendship, and commitment to our program will be valued forever.

Please join us in thanking Cathy and wishing her safe travels as she ventures to her new home in Las Vegas with thoughts of her Carolina family and friends always in her mind!

… How about this for a Throwback Thursday? Miss Gastonia’s Teen Ava Socarras had an opportunity to visit Woodhill Elementary School to spend time with students for Read Across America Day and promote her community service initiative that focuses on advocating for healthy living and wellness. The students were great. Ava was great. And, it was a great time for reading, sharing, learning, and meeting a “queen.”

WAY TO GO, HALEY! As part of her community service initiative to support families that are experiencing financial hardships, Miss Gastonia 2023 Haley Price conducted a fundraiser to benefit the S.O.C.K.S. (Serving Our Community with Kindness in Springwood) organization.

S.O.C.K.S. specializes in crisis intervention services and provides assistance for food, clothing, utilities, medicine, and hospital supplies to people in need. Haley’s fundraising efforts were a tremendous success, and she was able to present a $1,000 check to S.O.C.K.S.

Haley would like to thank everyone who donated to her fundraiser, and she encourages people to do their part to support organizations like S.O.C.K.S. She also would like to thank Andrea Stephens, president of the United Way of Gaston County, for connecting her with the S.O.C.K.S. organization.

It was wonderful to have Miss Gaston County’s Teen Madelyn Evans representing us this weekend at the North Carolina Azalea Festival in Wilmington. Friday evening, Madelyn attended the Azalea Festival Queen’s Dance Party, and then on Saturday morning, she joined other Miss North Carolina’s Teen preliminary winners from across the state to ride on a float in the Azalea Festival Parade. Madelyn enjoyed every minute of her time at the Azalea Festival! North Carolina Azalea Festival at Wilmington, Inc.

CAROLINA PRINCESS SHOUT-OUT … Brodie Kate Arthur
Brodie Kate is the Carolina Princess for Miss Gaston County’s Teen Madelyn Evans. Brodie Kate will be in High Point this June to serve as a “little sister” to Madelyn as she competes for the title of Miss North Carolina’s Teen.

Brodie Kate is compassionate, free-spirited, and friendly; she never meets a stranger! Her laugh, her smile, and her personality are contagious, and she is a role model for everyone around her.

We are proud to have Brodie Kate Arthur as our Carolina Princess for Miss Gaston County’s Teen!
