At SMAA, we know the dance floor isn’t just steps — it’s a mirror. Watch how Alicia listens to the drums, trusts her body, and takes up space like she was born to. Because she was.

Solo doesn’t mean alone. It means I am enough.

🎥 captured by our lens. Alicia’s moment. All the power.

To our beautiful African dance community,

Today, as we celebrate Mother’s Day, we honor the nurturing spirit that moves through every rhythm and step we share. To the mothers in our circle—biological, spiritual, and dance mothers—we see your strength, your love, and the way you pour life into others. Thank you for the energy you bring to the drum and the dance.

But we also hold space for those who are not mothers, and for whom this day carries a different weight. We honor you too—your presence, your support, your role as aunties, sisters, and friends who help build this vibrant community.

And to those grieving the loss of your own mother, we walk gently beside you. May the dance be a prayer, a memory, and a healing. May her song live on in your feet and your heart. You are not alone.

Today, we celebrate all forms of love, care, and remembrance. As the drum beats and the ground moves beneath us, we are all held by the mothers who came before, the mothers among us, and the mothering energy that connects us all.

With love, rhythm, and respect,
Your dance family 💜
