Happy International — especially to the 2 billion of us who menstruate each month, and the more than 300 million women and girls on their period today.

And if you can, start the conversation early. Our founder’s kiddo has been curious about periods since she was still in pampers, often following her into the bathroom with questions.

Don’t hide it. Share it.

That’s how the next generation grows up without shame and all associated myths. Preparation starts with conversation - long before the .

That’s the world we’re building at FlowReady.

We’re proud to share a meaningful milestone for FlowReady:

We’ve received our first program grant to support our education work. For a growing grassroots organization, this kind of support is validation of the importance of preparing girls before their .

This funding will help us:
♦️ Reach more girls before their first period
♦️ Distribute dignity-affirming reusable kits
♦️ Challenge harmful myths through community engagement
♦️ Strengthen our local partnerships

Preparation changes everything.

When girls understand their bodies before menarche, they stay in school longer, face less shame, and are less vulnerable to early marriage and early childbearing.

Thank you to Population Connection (where our founder also works) for investing in prevention, not just response.

Exciting stuff coming up, stay plugged on here. We’ll be sharing updates as this work unfolds...

Lauren, a close friend and neighbor of our founder, created a neighborhood free pantry with food and essentials for anyone in need. And she didn’t stop there. Thoughtfully and on her own initiative, she made sure to include menstrual products, recognizing that women and girls are so often overlooked in spaces like these.

That alone would be worth celebrating. But there’s more.

Lauren has just become our newest monthly donor, helping 10 girls every month access reusable sanitary pads that can last over two years , reaching up to 120 girls each year with dignity and care.

Every contribution — whether one-time or recurring — truly makes a difference.

Thank you, Lauren, and thank you to all our donors for standing with FlowReady in our very first year.
Slow and steady, one by one, it all adds up.

If this story resonates, you’re welcome to join her as a monthly supporter.

Our follow-up with girls and parents in Mayuge

“I used to miss four days of school every month. Now it’s only one—and sometimes none.” Earlier in August the FlowReady team, in partnership with Community Self Driven Projects (CSDP), returned to Makembo St. Luke Primary School in Mayuge District—four months after our first menstrual health education session and FlowReady Kit distribution. This time, we weren’t just checking in on the girls. We also engaged with teachers, boys, and—for the very first time—parents in surrounding communities. Over three days, our joint team held school focus groups, community dialogues, and home visits…...

"I was that girl — and for me, it was traumatic.
I couldn’t handle my period for years after my first one…
there was so much guessing, gambling, and shame — and the fear of smelling, leaking, or “getting it wrong. Oh, I stunk, I leaked and got it wrong!"

"These things may look small, but it is a great difference in the lives of these girls."

We finally did it — the ! is here! 🩸
We spent the day with the incredible Primary Seven girls at Makembo Primary School — laughing, learning, and reflecting on how far we’ve come together.

We’re so proud of these girls for completing primary school — a remarkable feat for many in Uganda where nearly half of students don’t complete primary school and end up in and early childbearing. So, yes, we celebrated their journey and felt the joy of what a safe, dignified space, menstrual health education, and access to period basics can bring. Nearly a year of partnership, and the impact is showing!

As we cheered them on ahead of their final exams, one wish stayed with us: that one day, girls who menstruate during exams will have supportive policies around period pain management — because no girl should have to push through pain in silence.

Forever thankful to our donors and partners who made this safe space possible. ❤️ Join us at https://flowready.org/donate/..

On we celebrate the power, potential, and rights of every girl.

At FlowReady, we believe that menstruation should never derail a girl’s education, dreams, or dignity. Yet, too often, a girl’s first period is met with silence, stigma, or even early marriage.

We’re changing that. By reaching pre-menarchial girls with knowledge, reusable kits, and community support, we’re ensuring they step into this new stage of life prepared, empowered, and protected.

🩸Every girl deserves to know her body.
🩸 Every girl deserves to stay in school.
🩸 Every girl deserves a future defined by her potential—not her period.

Join us as we build a future where periods don’t hold girls back — they push them forward. 🩸

Proscovia told us she feels more confident talking about menstrual health since our last visit to her school. With her FlowReadyNow kit by her side, she’s already thinking ahead to what her first period might bring. She’s heard that girls are supposed to feel pain in the tummy, back, and head. Other girls we spoke with are already facing this overwhelming pain — often with no relief.

That’s why we’re working to stock the school safe room — not only with supplies like buckets, pads and bedsheets, but also with painkillers. Too often, girls are told to simply “power through” the pain as if it’s just nature. Help us change that. Help us keep these girls pain-free.

"Everyone seemed uncomfortable—this was a newsroom of informed, fully grown adults, yet they were cowering at the thought of covering menstruation. The questions began flying:

What are you going to say?
Will you mention private parts?
What about in Luganda? (Luganda is a widely spoken local language.)"
