As I promised I wanted to explain this piece to you guys. In my thought process I went into it with a clear concept of growth starting from the bottom. I had the idea of monochromatic at the bottom to more colorful at the top. I wanted the lower levels of the pyramid to be more industrial, broken, and dusty and as you move up I wanted it to feel cleaner and technological.

In my artist statement for this piece I named Bood, Sweat and Tiers, I explain that the base of the pyramid represents us in our most basic sense. We do what we need to do to build ourselves and the world around us. As we move up we see inventions, color and technology shaping us. Man and nature working together to make the world a better and brighter place.

At the top we find the height of our development, it’s impressive how far we’ve come but we must always remember that our strong foundation is what supports us at our peak.

I hope you guys like it and enjoyed reading about its meaning.

Let me know in the comments. 😀

I’m happy to announce the Hatch House will have a display space soon! I won’t give much away yet, but I do want to show you guys bits and pieces of the process of making the display which will be a work of art in itself. It will be like a life sized version of my book inserts in which my book inserts will be displayed. Very meta! Lol.

For now here is a clip of the very first step in this creation where I’m just drawing the bricks.

Follow me to see the entire process from start to finish. Can’t wait to show you!

For those of you who don’t know, The Hatch House name comes from my love of birding as well as being a metaphor for the place in which ideas are being hatched and brought to life. So it was only fitting to have a “bird wall” in the Hatch House Studio.

Since I had to move my studio to my apartment I wanted to document the moment when I took my bird wall down.

This timelapse is sort of a sentimental visual of the closing of that chapter. Either way the Hatch House can live anywhere, it’s not attached to a physical location.

The ideas will still be hatched, no matter where the nest is located. 😊

What idea would you like me to Hatch for you? Dm me for your commissioned piece!
