Two canvases that were tossed away; two canvases that were sitting in my second bedroom for years finally transfigured into two magnificent creatures 🐉 The original concept was that they would complement each other, yin and yang style. I couldn’t believe that the first one sold earlier this year! So here they are side by side. I’m just so happy they manifested this year and I can say this project is finally complete 🤍🖤

The dark dragon will be up for sale should anyone wish to have her- DM me for a price.

“Cassandra” -modeled after my favorite Honey Locust tree in Koz park. Honey locust are known for their sweet bean pods. In urban settings, most parks plant thornless a podless cultivars, but in Koz park there is one tree that still has these massive, fascinating thorns. Protective and fierce, she stands alone in the corner of the park.

The name Cassandra, meaning “shining on ” or “to surpass man,” derives from Greek mythology. The daughter of Priam, Cassandra refused the advances of Apollo. As punishment, Apollo cursed her with the gift of foresight, yet no one would believe her predictions. She would predict the fall of Troy and be ignored.

I don’t have much experience with watercolors, but I really enjoyed making this at paint night with Erica Read 🩵
