Some stories stay with you because they remind you that a new chapter can begin at any age.

Vesna Cottrell’s story is one of those stories.

She arrived in Connecticut from Europe as a child, learned to navigate a new language and a new sense of belonging, faced difficult health experiences, and chose to advocate for herself rather than disappear into silence.

Then, at almost 60, she started a rock band.

This conversation is about resilience, identity, courage, and the people who keep becoming: even after life has asked a great deal of them.

Feeling stuck doesn’t mean you’ve lost your way.

Sometimes fear makes us freeze: while a part of us is still asking for movement, clarity, and courage.

In Raz Patel’s newly published Substack article, “From Frozen to Fearless,” she reflects on recognizing the patterns that hold us back and taking the next honest step forward.

Fear may not disappear. But we can learn to respond to it differently.

If you’re navigating self-doubt, uncertainty, or a season of change, this is a reminder that your next chapter is still yours to write.

What if reinvention has no expiration date?

Vesna Cottrell started a rock band at almost 60.

That one detail says so much about her: and about the courage it takes to keep becoming who you are.

On The Raz Patel Show, Vesna shares a deeply personal story shaped by immigration, resilience, advocacy, and the long journey of finding her voice. We talk about what it means to keep moving forward after bullying, racism, cancer, and experiences that could have made her retreat into silence.

But Vesna didn’t stop at survival.

She kept creating. She kept speaking. She kept showing up: and reminding us that a new chapter can begin at any age.

Vesna Cottrell joins The Raz Patel Show for an honest conversation about immigrating to America, navigating serious health challenges, advocating for herself, and continuing to reinvent herself.

What happens when staying quiet becomes more costly than speaking up?

On The Raz Patel Show, Vesna Cottrell shares a deeply personal conversation about immigration, identity, resilience, health advocacy, and reinvention.

Vesna arrived in Connecticut from Europe at age four, learned English while navigating the experience of being treated as an outsider, and later advocated for herself after facing difficult medical experiences and unexpected costs.

And at almost 60, she started a rock band.

Her story is a powerful reminder that hardship can shape us without getting to define our future.

What do we discover when we stop performing strength and start telling the truth?

I’m Raz Patel, and as a woman, host, and storyteller, I’ve learned that the most powerful conversations are rarely the polished ones. They’re the candid conversations about what we’ve survived, what we’re still healing, and who we’re becoming.

On The Raz Patel Show, I sit down with remarkable people to explore resilience, leadership, identity, healing, purpose, and what it really means to live fearlessly.

The public story is only the beginning.

Behind every achievement is a human story. Behind every setback is a lesson. Behind every fearless moment is usually a season of doubt.

What would moving from “Frozen to Fearless” mean for you?

She arrived in America at four years old, without a word of English. Decades later, a diagnosis made her stop being quiet. “A man goes in for Vi**ra - it’s covered. I have cancer, and the test that could help save my life isn’t.” That’s Vesna Cottrell. She isn’t speaking rhetorically. Sh...
