The End Of An Era
What an incredible ride it has been! A little bit of a read here but please go with us to the end.
As some of our closest fans may know, I am here to publicly announce that New Trick has officially retired from our local and regional music scene.
What started 16 plus years ago from playing a variety of music in small bars and venues, eventually evolving into a regional touring band, we have graced many stages of all sizes. About 8 years ago we refined our genre and committed to be the best Classic Rock Band in this part of the Midwest. Never playing to any tracks, we hashed out a distinctive sound and made your favorites our own. As we performed, we wanted to always pay homage to the songs you know and love. This has been a true labor of love for us. All the while maintaining business and all things in a first class way and with top of line equipment.
As with all things, time marches on. We all get a little older and the miles and 5 AM arrivals home take their toll. The music scene has changed, at least the larger shows to which we focused on and became accustomed. We are still at the top of our game and wanted to ride off into the sunset on our own terms.
We did NOT break up, as show opportunities still abound but as we took a look at life, our various other musical projects and outside interests, it became apparent that the end of the summer of 2025 is a good time to say goodbye.
To the literally tens of thousands of fans and friends we have entertained, over the years we cannot begin to thank you for your support, encouragement and enjoyment of our work!! It is YOU that energized us every show!! A number totaling approximately 600 shows in 16 plus years. That speaks volumes and we thank you all!!
To the 100's of venues small and large, the fairs, town celebrations, street dances etc., throughout Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin, we thank you for your confidence in hiring us. We are proud to say we gave your patrons some great entertainment.
Finally on a personal level as the founder of New Trick, I thank the many musicians that I have shared a stage with and collaborated with. We lost two musicians who passed away as part of this thing -Tom Patterson and Harry Ebbesen. Rest in Peace guys!
This latest iteration of New Trick being absolutely the BEST! Daren, Bruce and Les - you guys are brothers and will always be family!
When I began playing drums as a little guy, who would've known that from high school band at Senior High in Dubuque to the University of Iowa Hawkeye Marching Band to worship teams and then founding New Trick, I would've been blessed to have done so much. 58 years of playing drums has been amazing. I'm humbled to have shared my love of music with all that I encountered. For me now at age 65, its behind the wheel of #10 Dirt Latemodel race car at race tracks all over Iowa.
As we hang up our cleats who knows what the future may bring, maybe a reunion one day.
But for now we as NEW TRICK simply say THANK YOU! God Bless!!
