Herb of the Week: Honeysuckle
Botanical Name: Lonicera caprifolium
Gender: Masculine
Planet: Jupiter
Element: Earth
Folk Names: Goatâs Leaf, Woodbine
Deities: Jupiter, Zeus, Amun-Ra, Horus, Apollo, Cerridwen, Hathor
Magical Powers: Money, Prosperity, Abundance, Psychic Powers, and Protection
An oil infused with honeysuckle can offer protection for every day use. It has traditionally been used in rituals to Cerridwen, the cauldron, or to Hathor in order to curry her favor. Honeysuckle is an herb extraordinaire when it comes to âsweeteningâ the disposition of deities and Lady Luck herself.
Use some sprigs of honeysuckle leaves and flowers on the ritual altar, or around a green candle to attract prosperity and abundance.
Honeysuckle smells wonderful, particularly in the spring months when it is fully in bloom. Unfortunately, it can be a very invasive species and can take over if it is left to its own devices! According to Paul Beyerlâs âMaster Book of Herbalismâ, honeysuckle is considered an herb of immortality. Itâs tenacious and prolific nature is probably why it is regarded that way.
If you are interested in learning more about herbs both magically and medicinally, come join us on Saturday June 6th from 12:00 to 4:00 PM at the shop. The cost of the class is just $25.
Hope to see you there!
