August has given us some of the BEST weddings over the years! šŸ™Œ

A few days ago, we shared a memory from a wedding we DJ’d back in 2022. What makes that wedding even more special is that it started a chain reaction—since then, we’ve DJ’d 6 weddings connected to that one, with another already booked for next year! ā¤ļø

And one year ago today, we celebrated with one of those couples…

Andrew & Savanna Montelius! šŸ„‚

This wedding was one for the books—and we even broke a few personal records along the way:

ā¤ļø 4 of our couples at ONE wedding
🌊 2 epic crowd surfs—both by the bride
šŸ’„ 1 chest bump—also with the bride šŸ˜‚

From getting ready all the way through the final song of the reception, this entire day was an absolute blast.

And anyone who knows Andrew and Savanna probably knows they are the perfect example of opposites attract.
Andrew is the chill, laid-back, quieter one.

Savanna?

She’s the life of the party…even when there isn’t a party. šŸ˜‚
And somehow, they fit together perfectly. ā¤ļø

Today, Andrew & Savanna have officially been married for ONE YEAR! šŸ„‚

We couldn’t be happier for these two, and we hope their first year of marriage is just the beginning of a lifetime of incredible memories together.

Happy 1st Anniversary, Andrew & Savanna! ā¤ļø

Help us show them some love and wish these two a very happy anniversary! šŸŽ‰šŸ„‚

Did you know Energy Wave Entertainment has a team of DJs? šŸŽ§

Having an amazing team allows us to celebrate with more than one couple on any day — and this past weekend, we had the opportunity to be part of TWO incredible weddings! ā¤ļø

First up, meet Cailyn & Jon! šŸ„‚šŸ’

We had such a great time getting to know them, planning alongside them, and ultimately bringing their vision to life on their wedding day!

Being trusted to play a part in such an important day is something we never take for granted, and we’re so excited for Cailyn & Jon as they begin this next chapter together. ā¤ļø

Help us show the newlyweds some love and congratulate Cailyn & Jon in the comments! šŸŽ‰šŸ„‚

Congratulations, Cailyn & Jon! ā¤ļø

As a wedding DJ, there are so many ways you can receive a compliment on your performance.

Some couples come up after the wedding and say, ā€œYou did a great job!ā€ or ā€œYou made our day perfect!ā€

Some write thoughtful cards or leave a tip — never expected, always appreciated. ā¤ļø

Some leave a review, which means more than they probably realize.

And some do a combination of all of the above.

But the three lovely ladies pictured below gave me one of the biggest compliments I could ever receive as a wedding DJ:

They each saw me DJ a wedding and decided they wanted that same experience for their own big day. ā¤ļø

It all started on August 5, 2022, when I had the honor of DJing Emilee & Jordan’s wedding.

Mallory was part of their wedding party.

Four years later, on August 8, 2026, I had the privilege of DJing Mallory & Carter’s wedding.

And next September, I’ll get to do it all over again when I DJ Megan & Grant’s wedding. Megan was part of Mallory’s wedding party.

One wedding led to another...which led to another.

3 friends.
3 brides.
3 weddings.
1 incredible full-circle moment. ā¤ļø

And on Saturday night, for the first time since this story began...
all three brides were under one roof.

There really isn’t a better compliment than that. ā¤ļø

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words.
This is one of my favorite photos because it tells the story of a wedding I’ll never forget.
The date was August 6, 2022.
Energy Wave Entertainment was only in its third year of business, but it was already the busiest year of my DJ career. I had 37 weddings booked while still working a full-time job, and for the first time ever, I was experiencing burnout. I never thought something I loved so much could leave me feeling that way.
Then this wedding happened.
Every wedding is special because every couple is trusting us with one of the biggest days of their lives. I’ll never take that responsibility for granted.
But this one was different.
Two words explain why:
Rap battle.
During Bryce and Lynsey’s final planning meeting, we started talking about music, which led to Chris Brown’s Look At Me Now. They told me one of the groomsmen knew Busta Rhymes’ verse by heart.
I smiled and said, ā€œSo do I.ā€
At the reception, that same groomsman requested the song. I looked down, realized I had two microphones, and knew exactly what had to happen.
Instead of staying behind the DJ booth, I walked onto the dance floor, handed him a microphone, and we went bar for bar.
Within seconds, guests formed a circle around us—laughing, cheering, recording, and completely buying into the moment. The person loving it the most was Bryce, right in the middle of it all, cheering us on while filming one of the most unforgettable memories of his wedding day.
It reminded me that weddings aren’t just about music. They’re about creating moments people will never forget.
Today, Bryce and Lynsey celebrate four years of marriage.
Since that day, Energy Wave Entertainment has grown into its sixth year, and this photo hangs in my office as a daily reminder of why I started this company.
Even more meaningful, I’ve now had the honor of DJing six weddings connected to this one, with another already booked for next year. To me, that’s one of the greatest compliments I could ever receive.
Bryce and Lynsey, thank you for believing in me when I needed that reminder the most. I’ll always be grateful that I was part of your day.
Happy 4th Anniversary, Bryce & Lynsey! ā¤ļø

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words.

This picture is one of my favorites because it tells the story of a wedding I'll never forget.

The date was August 6, 2022.

Energy Wave Entertainment was only in its third year of business, but it was already the busiest year of my DJ career. I had 37 weddings booked while still working a full-time job. Somewhere along the way, I experienced burnout for the first time in my life—something I never thought could happen to someone who genuinely loved what he did.

Then this wedding happened.

Now, every wedding we've ever been a part of holds a special place in my heart because every couple is trusting us with one of the biggest days of their lives. I'll never take that responsibility for granted.

But this one was different.

I can explain why in just two words:

Rap battle.

During Bryce and Lynsey's final planning meeting, we somehow got talking about music, which led to Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now." They told me one of the groomsmen could rap the entire song...including Busta Rhymes' verse.

I smiled and said, "So can I."

Fast forward to the reception.

The dance floor had just opened, the party was starting to build, and one of the groomsmen walked up to request Look At Me Now. The moment I saw who it was, I knew exactly what was about to happen.

I looked down and realized I had two microphones.

A few songs later, I played it.

Instead of staying behind the DJ booth, I grabbed both microphones, walked into the middle of the dance floor, handed one to the groomsman, and we went bar for bar.

Before we knew it, every guest had formed a circle around us, cheering, laughing, filming, and hyping us up. And the person enjoying it the most was Bryce. He was right there in the middle of it all, cheering us on while recording one of the most unforgettable moments of the night.

It wasn't just a performance.

It was one of those moments that reminds you weddings aren't just events—they're memories that people will talk about for years.

Today, Bryce and Lynsey celebrate four years of marriage.

Since that day, Energy Wave Entertainment has grown into its sixth year of business, and this photo now hangs in my office. It's the very first thing people see when they walk in because every time I look at it, it reminds me why I started this company.

What makes this story even more meaningful is what happened afterward.

I've now had the honor of DJing six weddings connected to this one, with another already booked for next year. Two former brides are in this photo, and another future bride is here too.
To me, that's one of the greatest compliments I could ever receive.

People often think a wedding DJ is just there to play music.
I've learned that the best weddings are about something much bigger than that. They're about building relationships, creating moments people never forget, and earning the kind of trust that gets passed from one family and group of friends to another.

Bryce and Lynsey, thank you for believing in me four years ago. Your wedding came at a time when I truly needed a reminder of why I love doing this, and I'll always be grateful for the memories we created together.

Happy 4th Anniversary Bryce & Lynsey! ā¤ļø

A wedding DJ’s setup shouldn’t be the reason you hire them...but it can be the reason you don’t.
A setup isn’t about showing off expensive equipment. It’s about what it communicates.
Most couples aren’t comparing speaker brands or microphone models—they’re looking for someone they can trust to bring their vision to life. If you know what to look for, a DJ’s setup can tell you a lot before they ever play the first song.
What can you learn just by looking at a wedding DJ’s setup?
Believe it or not...quite a bit.
Here’s a photo from one of our recent weddings with one of our favorite couples, Paige & Claire (you’ll even spot them on the TV built into our DJ booth!).
Before we ever press play, here’s what our setup says:
šŸŽµ Professional Sound Placement – Speakers should be elevated and positioned so everyone hears every important moment clearly.
✨ Clean Presentation – Your DJ should complement your dĆ©cor, not compete with it. Hidden cables, matching equipment, and an organized booth make a difference.
šŸ” Attention to Detail – Proper cable management, taped-down cords, and an organized workspace reflect the care your wedding deserves.
ā° Preparation – Great setups don’t happen five minutes before guests arrive. They require planning, testing, and time. One of the best compliments we receive is when everything works so seamlessly that no one notices how much preparation went into it.
šŸ’” Lighting with Purpose – Lighting should enhance each moment, not distract from it. Every lighting decision should support the atmosphere you’re trying to create. ā¤ļø Guest Experience – Before the first song is played, your guests have already formed a first impression. A polished setup builds excitement for what’s to come.
At the end of the day, a great wedding DJ is about much more than playing music. We help guide the timeline, create the atmosphere, and make memories that last a lifetime.
When you’re meeting with DJs, ask to see photos of their real wedding setups. You might be surprised by how much they reveal.
šŸ‘‡ If you were planning your wedding, what would matter most to you: amazing sound, beautiful presentation, or a packed dance floor?

A wedding DJ's setup shouldn't be the reason you hire them, but it can be the reason you don't. The setup isn't about impressing you with expensive equipment. It's about what that setup says. Most couples aren't comparing speaker brands or microphone models—they're looking for someone they can trust to execute their vision. But if you know what to look for, a DJ's setup can reveal a lot about the experience they'll provide before they ever play the first song.

What can you learn about a wedding DJ just by looking at their setup? šŸ¤”

Believe it or not...quite a bit.

When you're searching for a wedding DJ, don't just ask, "How much?" Take a close look at how they present themselves.

Below is a picture of our setup at a recent wedding with one of our favorite couples Paige & Claire (pictured on the TV on the front of the booth).

Here is what our setup says before I even play the first song:

šŸŽµ Professional sound placement – The speakers are elevated and spread out so everyone in the room hears clear, balanced audio—not just the guests closest to the DJ. From the Grand Entrance to toasts/speeches to the dance party, speaker placement is so important.

✨ Clean, elegant presentation – Weddings are one of the most photographed and documented days of your life. Your entertainment shouldn't distract from your dĆ©cor, it should enhance it. Does the DJ have a bunch of sticker on their laptop or booth, is their company logo all over their setup, do they have mismatching green or yellow extension cords that are exposed, etc. Those are a few more things to look for.

šŸ”Œ Attention to detail – Cable management, hiding cases and other storage items, taping down cables to avoid trip hazards and an organized booth don't happen by accident. If your DJ cares about the little things you can see, chances are they'll care about the little things you can't.

ā° Preparation
A professional setup doesn't come together five minutes before guests arrive. It takes planning, organization, and enough time to test every microphone, speaker, and light before your guests ever walk into the room. One of the best compliments we can receive is when everything works so seamlessly that no one notices how much preparation went into it.

šŸ’” Lighting with purpose – The lighting is designed to enhance the atmosphere. Imagine looking back at the photos and videos of your first dance and the bride's white dress is peppered with different colored dots or ugly bloches of colors. Photos ruined. There should be a good reason behind every lighting choice to match any given moment.

šŸ¤ Consistency matters – Matching equipment and a cohesive setup show intention and pride in the experience we're creating for every couples.

šŸ’øInvestment – There are still DJs that use a banquet table as their base for their setup. To be frank, there were DJs doing that back in the 80s and 90s. In 2026, there are so many inexpensive ways to set a DJs presentation apart. A unique setup is a great way to determine if a DJ invests in themselves to enhance the big day.

🤌 Experience – When your wedding day is all said and done, it should be an event that is memorable and fondly remembered. If your guests walked in and your DJ had a unique and professional setup, it would tell them that this wedding is going to be different than other weddings they have attended. Your guest's experience is so important.

At the end of the day, a good DJ is much more than someone who just plays music.

We play a part in the atmosphere, the timeline, the energy, and helping create memories you'll look back on for decades.

When you're meeting with DJs, take a moment to ask them to show you photos of their real wedding setups. It tells you a lot about the experience they're planning to deliver.

I will be DJing tomorrow night at Double Z’s starting around 8:00pm. It will be following a birthday party at another location and will serve as the after party. See everyone there!
