A good event and good time was had by all at our first annual Robert Burns birthday. We enjoyed great music by George and Anwyn Leverett, poetry and song, some history of Robert Burns, delicious food, and many folks wore a bit of tartan for the occasion. We even had fantastic dramatic recitations of Burns poems by professional storyteller David Hodges. We will do this again next year!

Greetings all supporters of the Illinois River Valley Arts Council!

Please join us for an afternoon celebration of Robert Burns. After Taylor's was unable to continue the Burns Night with George and Anwyn this year, IRVAC is keeping this event alive in a smaller way this year, and planning to make it bigger again in the future.

Watch for our ad and article in the IV News.

“Hearts in the Highlands,” Saturday, February 7th, a Robert Burns Celebration, features music by George and Anwyn Leverett as well as Robert Burns’ poetry read by Kris Wildman and others.

This IRVAC event benefits free art and music in the Illinois Valley public schools and opens with a 20-minute talk by history professor Zita Worley. Gift Raffle and Haggis Tasting too!

Light Refreshment provided and Potluck Dishes welcomed but not required. Admission is $5 to $20, sliding scale.

This Illinois River Valley Arts Council fundraiser is 1 to 4pm Saturday, February 7th, at I.V. Grange, 3763 Holland Loop Road, just east of Takilma Road intersection.

Hope to see you there!

What is the Arts Council?

We are an Arts Council (IRVAC) serving a rural community in southern Oregon by promoting art and music experiences and art education through programs in schools and in public venues. We support our local chorale concerts and host special art and music events to enrich our community.

Volunteers give time to IRVAC programs and events and we rely on the generous donations of community members to help fund programs such as Learning Through Arts and Art in the Valley. We are a 501c3 art charity. Donations are tax deductible.

We also support music by sponsoring concerts, resident artist projects, and supporting the RCC/IV/Three Rivers Chorale performances in Cave Junction.

We receive grant funding for art education and enrichment programs in local schools. We receive grants from Oregon foundations for Learning Through Art in Evergreen Elementary and Lorna Byrne Middle School.

We strive to enrich and expand the learning opportunities for the children, youth, and adults of our rural community, for the betterment of all. We support and promote local artisans through our events and in our Facebook group, Arts in Southern Oregon. Many of our programs are open to the public to participate. Such projects have included the Gateway Project, Garden Art Project, Poetry Slam, Public Art projects (murals, sculpture installations), book readings, public art classes, and other creative efforts to include the whole community in what we do.

We have a post office box where you may write to us or mail your annual dues or donations: P.O. Box 522, Cave Junction, OR 97523.

Our members include creative and artistic folks, community volunteers, event organizers, teachers, musicians, and many people who support our work. One does not need to be an artist to be a member, just someone who cares about the quality of life, culture, and art and music education in the Illinois Valley. Please join us!

The Learning Through Art Program is going on again at Lorna Byrne Middle School, plus we have the Viking Art Club there -- very busy! We offer art projects for kids at the IV library too. We always have a lot going on. Offering art classes to our children and youth is our mission and our passion.

We offer this for free, thanks to the generous grants and donations we receive. Please consider supporting IRVAC (Illinois River Valley Arts Council) by joining today. Or donate what you can to us. It will help us continue all our programs and projects. Mail your check to IRVAC, PO Box 522, Cave Junction, OR 97523. Thank you!
