I havent posted in ages since my artwork has mostly been put on hold due to returning to school, but I have been working on this one in fits and starts: This is Leila and Uno. Still unfinished, but it’s getting there!

Bubbles has followed my brother, sister in law, and niece all over the west coast for the last several years. He is so loved by my adorable niece and their huge, goofy goldendoodle pal, Sammy. Below is his portrait—I thought it turned out so cute with him looking like he’s peeking around the side of the frame ☺️

This is Sandy. Sadly, she recently passed just as I was finishing up her portrait. She lived to a ripe old age and had many wonderful adventures with her person! Here she is visiting White Sands National Park 🥰❤️

This was a very special piece for a beautiful friend and her family. I don’t think I have ever smiled so much while working on a picture. In fact, my daughter often sat nearby while I was bent over my table in concentration. “WHY are you smiling like that??” she asked. She looked a bit concerned. It was only then that I noticed that I was practically grinning ear to ear!

Every time I thought that I was finished I would look again and say no, no, no… his smile needs to be BIGGER. And each time I got closer to getting it right, I think my own smile got a little bigger too. What a beautiful gift that JR has shared with me.

So… Are you smiling yet? ❤️☺️

There is definitely something to be said for quality, high definition photos with great lighting and contrast! I love to try to really make the different textures in the picture come through in my work.

Thanks again to Lane Equine Photography for allowing me to use one of your gorgeous photos as a reference! If you haven’t checked out her page yet, you really should!

I have been following Lane Equine Photography for a while now. She is so talented, and her shots are truly breathtaking. Even drawing this picture, I can almost feel the breeze and sense of anticipation that it elicits. Her work is so inspiring, as is her story!!!

She has so graciously allowed me to use her photographs as references in my artwork. Below is a picture of the one that I am currently working on. I can only hope to do it justice once I’m through!

For me, sharing in-progress artwork is a very vulnerable thing to do. I am somewhat of a perfectionist in my art, and it’s difficult to let people see it when it’s not looking its best. Throughout the process, I am continually adjusting colors, tones, and small details until I am sure that I have things “just right.” I feel like I could work on most things and really never be done. I just finally reach a point where I say “stop touching it!” 😅

Below is the current piece I am working on 🙃

Merry Christmas Eve!

I’ve been working on a couple of projects in secret again, as they are gifts. This one has been both finished and received, so here it is! 🦜❤️
