One week (Sat 8/15) til the final concert of the 2026 season at Storm King Art Center, with the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra led by 102 yr old icon Marshall Allen! Plus special guest Ephraim Asili spinning vinyl before the set. Gates open 5pm, come early and explore the sprawled out landscape of wonderful art that is Storm King. Arkestra hit 6:45PM 🚀🪐💫

Food and drink avail onsite. Bring a chair or blanket, comfortable walking shoes, bug spray, and maybe a layer as it does cool off quick after sunset!

Space is the Place! 🚀🪐🌀 We are just under a month away from the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra (Sun Ra Arkestra) under the direction of ‘the maestro’ Marshall Allen (at 102!) at Storm King Art Center Sat 8/15!

There’s been a lot of talk this year about what is American music, and who gets to decide that. For my money, there is no group the last 60+ years who exemplifies the creative beauty of this country more than Sun Ra and the Arkestra. Combining jazz of all sorts (spiritual, free, swing) with avante-garde Afro-Cuban grooves, all while rocking their iconic, Afro-futurist garb, there really is nothing else on this planet (or any others I’m aware of) like em. It’s honor to bring them to the Hudson Valley for the 5th time in 5 years, and hoping you can come celebrate their music in such a special setting as Storm King!

Plus - deep vinyl selections from Ephraim Asili before their set!

Tix are in bio - gates open 5pm, come wander the acres of installations and sculptures, with the Arkestra hitting around 6:45pm. Bring a chair or blanket, Water and snacks are allowed, and there will be food and drink vendors onsite!

WED NIGHT (7/8) ! Our monthly free ((Local Waves)) concert at The Local in Saugerties will feature Kaethe Hostetter (Kaethe Hostetter) performing songs from her excellent new album Woradj Alle! 7:30 doors / 8pm show, rsvp link in bio, but feel free to just roll up too!

We do these concerts ever 2nd Wednesday, with a focus on local artists releasing original music. It’s a great way to discover some of the amazing, emerging talent in our region! Presented by The Local, Curated by Chosen Family Presents, and live streamed by WGXC, this is part of the Local Waves initiative by WGXC that includes a radio show and interview series every last Thur at The Avalon Lounge !

JULY! Showing the USA 🇺🇸🦅⚽️ World Cup games at The Avalon Lounge as long as they are in it ! Bosnia tonight, if they win, we are looking at Monday 8PM for a tough game against Belgium or Senegal. To root for the USA is to root for immigrant rights, birthright citizenship, and common decency so that is why we pass the hat each game for Columbia County Sanctuary Mvmt ! We’ll also be showing the Semi’s + Finals ⚽️

THUR 7/30 is the next Breaking The Algorithm IRL at Avalon, I’ll be interviewing errant space (Errant Space) and guest DJ is Marcos Cabral! This will also be part of the PLEDGE DRIVE for WGXC 90.7-FM, with the theme of slowwwwwing dowwwwn (slow radio, slow media, slow sounds) so I encourage folks to come out and make a donation to WGXC, or grab some of their awesome merch to support the wonderfully independent, experimental and locally made programs on WGXC

An All American-a affair this Thur Night at Avalon!

From 7-9pm it’s the WGXC 90.7-FM monthly hang called Breaking The Algorithm IRL where we have a guest DJ (Andy from Andy) and Mike from Chosen Family does a live conversation with a local artist, to air as part of the ((Local Waves)) show on WGXC. This months guest is Catskills own Harp-slinging, country-tinged rocker Mikaela Davis, who’s just dropped an excellent new LP Graceland Way on Kill Rock Stars

Then, at 10PM, we’ll be showing the 🇺🇸 vs 🇹🇷 World Cup ⚽️ game! US is already onto the knockout round, but we’ll be cheering on the boys (including Hudson Valley’s own Tyler Adams!) regardless! And we’ll be passing the hat for donations to Immigrant Rights organization Columbia County Sanctuary Mvmt
