WHAT A YEAR! Like much of the world, CREATE Council On the Arts saw an important period of vitalization, re-emergence and rebirth. We look over our shoulders in deep gratitude, humility and wonder at the social and environmental challenges that we not only collectively faced but came through with life-affirming works of community, dignity and inspiration. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all of our members, grantees, contributing artists and friends that made so many dreams come alive in 2022, and in so, so many ways, often under trying or difficult circumstances. You made this year especially significant and memorably outstanding. ✨ Together we say, goodbye good year, hello new —love wins! 😊💖CHEERS!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!✨💥

Pocket Merchant is a jazz-fusion group based in the Hudson Valley. Featuring Justin Geyer on keyboards, Alden Slack on sax, Marco Spodek on drums, and Adriana Tampasis on flute, this group stirs an eclectic mix of groove-based compositions and arrangements. Come on down to get down!

CREATE Council On The Arts is grateful to announce today a grant award totaling $49,500 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the recovery of the nonprofit arts and culture sector. Following New York State’s historic investment for the arts, NYSCA has awarded $90 million since Spring 2022 to a record number of artists and organizations across the state.

Governor Kathy Hochul said, “As a cultural capital of the world, New York State is strengthened by our expansive coverage of the arts across all 62 counties. This year's historic commitment to the arts sector will spur our continuing recovery from the pandemic and set the course for a stronger future."

NYSCA Executive Director Mara Manus said, “We are immensely grateful to Governor Hochul and the Legislature for their unprecedented investment of $240 million to support arts organizations across the state. New York State arts organizations such as CREATE are the cornerstone of our vibrant arts economy. As crucial drivers of our health and vitality, we are grateful to the unwavering dedication of arts workers across the state.”

NYSCA Chair Katherine Nicholls said, “On behalf of the entire Council, I congratulate CREATE Council On The Arts on this grant award. Their creative work provides the benefits of the arts to both their community and all of New York. Arts organizations are essential, leading our tourism economy and fueling sectors such as hospitality, transit, and Main Streets across our state. “

Purpose Cooperative member Sophia Taylor is doing a 3-part creative writing workshop series!

The fall season brings a chill, but it also brings shorter, darker days full of unseen treasure. Come discover your imaginative treasure trove and conjure storied adventures with pen, keyboard, and quill at Purpose Markerspace with local author and writer Sophia Taylor. In these workshops you will draw on your powerful imagination to create a short, fanciful story. Workshop members will work together to brainstorm, collaborate, and eventually share their stories.

CREATE & FLOWCHART FOUNDATION at HUDSON TRAIN STATION!

“Poems in the Amtrak Station Beginning in July of 2020, in collaboration with CREATE (Council for Resources to Enrich the Arts, Technology, and Education), we’ve been installing great poetry in the Hudson, NY Amtrak station. Each installation features a set of three placards, which remain on view for two or more months.”

This set of Amtrak Poetry placards celebrate three poems and poets published by Wave Books. Included here is “Scorch Marks” by Dara Barrois/Dixon (from You Good Thing).
