Looking for little ways to sprinkle some fall magic into your week?

Between the Halloween festivities, costume planning, and all the excitement this time of year brings, sometimes it’s the little things at home that make a season feel special.

BOO BASH DAY IS HERE! 🍋🧡👻🎃

We’re all set up and ready for a spooky little afternoon at Hidden Creek Family Farm of Taylorsville from 2–6 PM today!

Come find Silly Little Lemons Sensory Play for a little hands-on fun! We have a play tray invitation where your littles can stop by and explore, plus a variety of sensory kits and playdough kits to bring home for even more play after the festivities.

And because it’s Boo Bash, we’ll have bubbles for our booth trick-or-treaters, too!

I’ve spent so much of this week photographing products for our new website, and these photos were just too good not to share.

Really, only the sensory moms are going to understand this one….

He married a healthcare worker who clocked in, clocked out, and left work at work. Now he’s married to a woman whose brain quite literally never stops creating. A woman who can’t walk through a store without finding something that could become part of an invitation to play, who turns flour and oil into an afternoon of magic, and who is always dreaming up the next theme before the last one is even put away.

But underneath all the beans, playdough, endless supplies, and “what did you order now?” conversations, there’s a reason I do what I do.

I believe childhood is worth slowing down for. That ordinary moments can become meaningful ones. That play can be so much more than keeping little hands busy. And that we can create opportunities for our children to explore, learn, regulate, and find wonder in the most ordinary things.

So yes, there will probably always be another theme. Another idea. Another package arriving at the door.

And somewhere between his “that’s cool” and the next thing I dream up, I hope my children grow up remembering a childhood that felt a little more magical.

Before you buy more sensory play supplies, check your pantry!

Today’s apple pie moon sand was made with a few simple ingredients you may already have at home, plus a few kitchen tools for scooping, pouring, and exploring.

🍎 DIY Fall Moon Sand

You’ll need:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, or apple pie spice
¼ cup vegetable oil

How to make it:
1. Mix the flour and spice together in a bowl.
2. Slowly add the vegetable oil and mix until the texture resembles soft, crumbly sand.
3. Transfer to a sensory bin and add measuring spoons, small bowls, cinnamon sticks, or other baking tools.
4. Invite your little ones to scoop, pour, fill, and explore!

Want to make it safer for little explorers who mouth their materials?
Raw flour can contain harmful bacteria, so it should never be considered taste-safe straight from the bag. One commonly shared home method is to spread flour in a thin layer on a baking sheet and heat it in the oven at 350°F for 5 minutes, then allow it to cool completely before using.

Sensory play doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Sometimes, you can start with what you already have.

Note: heat-treated flour also doesn’t automatically make the entire mixture taste-sate, so consider every ingredient and supervise closely during play.

Our very own Leaf Man adventure…

It started with a basket, a little time outside, and a handful of colorful leaves collected from the ground.

Back inside, we spread out our treasures and began creating our very own Leaf Men. Each one came together a little differently, with its own mix of leaves, flowers, and little details from nature.

“Mom, look at our picture!” 🥹

And just like that, our little nature walk turned into a story of its own.

But we weren't finished there. Our Leaf Men needed somewhere to explore, so we brought them to life in a fall-inspired sensory tray filled with autumn colors, woodland treasures, and plenty of little details for curious hands to discover.

What was supposed to be an adventure shared with other families became a special little day at home with my own crew. And while it wasn't quite the plan we had for this weekend, I'm grateful we still got to slow down, create, explore, and make a few memories together.

Sometimes all you need is a basket of leaves and a little imagination to turn an ordinary afternoon into something special. 🤎

We had a Leaf Man Adventure planned for tomorrow, but when my little guy woke up sick, we had to make the hard decision to cancel.

I was so looking forward to sharing this little fall adventure with other families, but today, we brought it home and made a little magic of our own.

We headed outside with a basket to collect leaves, came back in to create our own little Leaf Men, and finished with a sensory invitation inspired by our favorite leafy friends.

And hearing my girl say, “Mom, look at our picture!” was a sweet little reminder that even when a day doesn’t go the way we planned, there are still memories to be made right in the middle of it.

As much as I wish we could have shared this adventure with our community tomorrow, I’m grateful we still got to experience it together here at home.

Here’s to finding a little magic in the plans that change, making the most of the days we’re given, and remembering that sometimes the simplest moments become the sweetest memories.

My heart actually breaks to be making this event post. Despite the prep we have done, the materials we have purchased, and the excitement we have felt for finally hosting our own sensory play date my son woke up this morning either with food poisoning or a stomach virus. Out of the utmost safety for our community we will be unable to bring our Leaf Man Adventure to fruition.

As a small business owner while I know life happens I am also feeling so frustrated to have to make this decision. Don’t lose heart in us — we will have more events soon and cannot wait for our upcoming Messy Mondays and our Spooky Little Halloween Party. We hope everyone enjoys some fall fun this weekend ❤️‍🩹
