Disappearing all around 😔

Jam on Walnut {you know, one of Pittsburgh’s most beloved free summer block parties} has officially been CANCELED for 2026. 🚧❌🥺

The Shadyside Chamber of Commerce pulled the plug this week, citing safety concerns, cleanliness issues, and underage drinking that had been spiraling outside the event perimeter. According to City Councilwoman Erika Strassburger, last summer basically turned into a teen takeover in the surrounding parking lots.

We get it. Nobody wantss to see a community staple go down like that.

Frfr: this is bigger than one event. Pittsburgh’s free live music culture is fragile. These block parties, these outdoor series, these “just show up and feel the city” moments… they don’t just happen. They take organizers, sponsors, city cooperation, and a crowd that respects the space.

When that breaks down, everybody loses.

Jam on Walnut raised tens of thousands of 💰 for Animal Friends over the years. It brought Shadyside alive on summer nights. It gave local bands a stage. An opportunity for commerce and community outreach. And now it’s gone .. at least for this summer.

Pittsburgh, we have to do better if we want to keep these things. 🖤 Should we build something better and sustainable with proper event planning??
