The April Skies Collection is framed and ready to go live on the new website tomorrow morning at 9:00! These little 5x7 oil paintings were created this past April during my month line challenge to paint a skyscape every single day. I chose my favorite 20 paintings and float mounted them on watercolor paper and framed them in little gold wood 8x10 frames. Thank you so much to the Carolina Art Show for hosting a great event in Wilmington this weekend! I was honored to be selected to participate and so grateful to the collector who went home with my painting at the opening Friday night! I have been to most of the beaches on the coast of North Carolina but in all the decades I have lived here, I have never been to the city of Wilmington itself. We had a wonderful time exploring downtown, eating at great restaurants and, yes, going to the beach!

Just finished up this 10x20 semi abstracted painting. This one is based off the memory of a vintage painting that was hanging in the house my daughter bought last year. After we toured the house with her I could not get the painting out of my mind. My daughter even tried to see if we could buy it from the estate that was selling the house, but no luck there! So this is my version of it!

Am I the only one that has 10 or more works in progress in the studio? Some are new and have lots of momentum and some are more accurately called “unfinished paintings”. 😂 Most of them are unrelated to each other. But I do have plans for painting more of a collection of paintings from our trip to Italy last month, which feels a bit ambitious and intimidating if I’m honest!

Welcome to my studio in Cary, North Carolina! This is the spot where I get to be messy and creative in what used to be my kids’ playroom for 20 years! I took it over (a perk of emptynest life 😂), tore up the carpet and painted a harlequin pattern on the subfloor. I feel really fortunate to have such a large space that is flooded with natural light all day long. As you can see it’s stuffed pretty full with tons of art supplies, tools of the trade, half finished paintings and normally a big mess. I did clean it up for our tour today though! Thanks for joining me!

My first week of daily April Sky paintings is complete! I really had fun with these. One of my goals for this year was to develop a daily painting practice and having a 30 day goal is a bite sized chunk to focus on.
