Lily Ball

Lily Ball I'm a nerd! Talk to me about art history, Star Trek, Dune, video games, board games, etc.

Lily Ball is an art historian and teacher specializing in English as a foreign language who holds a Masters degree from the University of Southern California. Since she was a little girl, she’s been fascinated with found objects and understanding their significance. Her fascination with the ancient Maya writing system led her to do fieldwork in Belize, where she participated in an archaeological d

ig of an ancient Maya ball court. She spent a year in Japan after studying East Asian art, and teaches martial arts in her spare time. When she’s not studying artifacts, she’s binge-watching old episodes of Start Trek and deconstructing her favorite comic books. Her eye for detail is integral to solving mysteries on FOUND, and her dry sense of humor and rapier wit makes her fit right in with her colleagues.

The block party and grand opening was incredible. Art is political; Diego Rivera coupled with an ancient Mexican statuette presented as the first thing you see upon entering feels right. The space is ours, LA. Go.

In-tower training this past Saturday with was a success! The 4.3mi hike to the Slide Mt Fire Lookout Tower was a sweaty 2.5hrs up, and 1.5hrs down, but worth it. Learning protocols, watching for smoke sign, and connecting with fellow look-outs took up most of the day. The rest was for day-dreaming of overnight shifts and starry skies over Pyramid Lake (and maybe a door on the outhouse).

My first as an EMT was a fun, sweaty, dusty, educational time. Everyone had something to teach me. I was fed and cared for like family. I ran a weird, but successful call with a smart, capable partner (the boss told us we did an "excellent job" 😭). The ER doc on call told me I would "make an amazing emergency room physician, because you don't take anyone's s**t, you read people like a book, and you care deeply about your patients." I waited until I got home to cry about that one lol

The learning curve never flattens out. I feel like the festival ends just as I'm hitting my stride. There's so much to learn. Can't wait for the next one.

The Central Library is (still) gorgeous, and the murals in the rotunda are (still) beautifully painted Eurocentric white-washed history that ignores the atrocities committed by the Spanish conquistadors and Christian monks against the native people. Time for an update.
