The Fayetteville-Saint Avold Friendship Alliance seeks to promote an appreciation of the sacrifices that have been made by the men and women of the United States and France for the protection of liberty and freedom; to promote and enhance the historical, cultural and educational relationships between Fayetteville and Saint Avold; and to provide educational and cultural exchanges between the citizens of Fayetteville and Saint Avold.

Army Private William M. Shaw was a Fayetteville, NC native who served in World War II. He was killed in action in France on September 12, 1944. He is permanently buried at the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial (Plot C, Row 21, Grave 25) in Saint-Avold, France.

This is the shared history that brings our sister cities together and we honor that this Memorial Day. Special thanks to Maryline Clement, a French teacher, who helped us order the flower arrangements in Saint Avold for Memorial Day.

We are so sorry to share this sad news that sweet Jackie Dalton has passed away. She has been a supporter of the FSAFA since the beginning and was at every Bastille Day celebration we held. Her kindness and lovely smile will be missed.
