If you’ve ever wondered why skulls are everywhere during ***os(DAY OF THE DEAD), there’s the reason. —the colorful, decorated skulls associated with the holiday—aren’t meant to be frightening. They’re playful reminders that death is part of life, and that the people we love can still be remembered with color, humor and joy.

That’s what inspired our new Calavera Sand Painting Kit. Instead of paint or markers, you uncover the specially cut design a section at a time, pour on brilliantly colored sand, and watch your calavera appear. It’s part art project, part sensory experience—and surprisingly hard to stop once you start.

Think about it as an activity to share with family or friends - remembering and talking about loved ones as you create together. https://www.dayofthedeadkit.com/product/dia-de-los-muertos-sand-painting-kit/

After months of designing, cutting, testing, playing with sand—and waiting for all the pieces to come together—our new Calavera Sand Painting Kits are finally here and ready to ship!

Inspired by Día de los Mu***os, each kit includes four specially cut calavera designs and twelve brilliant sand colors. Make them with family or friends, create one in memory of someone you love, add one to an ofrenda (memory altar)—or simply enjoy the wonderfully absorbing experience of making art with sand.

Día de los Mu***os is November 1 and 2, so if you’d like a kit for this year’s celebration, now is a perfect time to order (plus free shipping!)

We're excited to share something new: our Día de los Mu***os Calavera Sand Painting Kit is live, with FREE shipping and delivery by the end of September! https://www.dayofthedeadkit.com/

Inside are four custom calavera (skull) designs and twelve colors of sand — perfect for gathering around a table with family or friends (or settling in on your own) to create something colorful while remembering someone who's been part of your life.

Because you're working with sand, it's more like play than pressure to "make art." Pour it, rub it, mix it, brush away the extra — no drawing skills required, and every calavera comes out different. The kit also includes a booklet on Día de los Mu***os and ideas for building your own ofrenda (altar).

Día de los Mu***os is celebrated November 1st and 2nd, but remembering someone and making something together are good any time of year.

There is a unique kind of healing that happens when we step away from our devices and do hands-on activities. These photos from a recent gathering remind us why we do what we do.

Making art together is more than a hobby; it is a way to reconnect with ourselves and each other through a shared, physical experience. Thank you to this group for sharing a glimpse of your creative process and the peace found in the work.

We spent an inspiring time creating with a wonderful group from Thrive Communities of Massachusetts

Thrive does vital work in our community. Their mission is to empower neighbors as they transition home from incarceration, providing the support and welcome they need to succeed.

Creating art together is a powerful way to build these essential human connections. We are grateful to everyone who participated and shared their creativity with us.

Take a look at the beautiful work they produced below.

We had a great time at Cambridge Naturals showcasing our Kit and Card deck. They're flying off the shelf!

Boston area friends, we’ve officially hit that stretch of winter where the cold feels personal. Two snowstorms, icy roads, and the kind of weather that makes you look out the window and decide you do not, in fact, need groceries.

Staying home is cozy… until it starts to feel like you’ve been living inside a snow globe.

So we scheduled something that fits this moment perfectly: a Sand Mandala Class on the evening of March 6 at Backyartists Art Studio (because sensory play is not just for kids!)

A is an ancient circle symbol of wholeness. Circles have no beginning and no end, which is maybe exactly what winter feels like right now… but have a way of turning that “endless” feeling into something grounding and comforting.

Join us for a warm and cozy night in. https://www.hisawyer.com/backyartists/schedules/activity-set/1799810

Hey friends,

We can never give up on building a strong community where everyone is safe, respected, and cared for.

But sometimes we need a little help coping.

That's why we're introducing 30 Days of Affirmations—a simple, five-minute daily series to bring a moment of calm into our lives.

Inspired by our Meditation Deck, Virginia has recorded weekly meditation videos featuring one card from the deck each week and sharing a few words to help us slow down, reset, and center ourselves.
