Tis Pity She's a Whore - Harvard An HRDC Production in the Loeb Experimental Theater
Adapted and Directed by Eliza Mantz
Produced by

“My reason tells me now that ‘tis as common
To err in frailty as to be a woman.” (IV.iii)

Annabella and Giovanni, a pair of siblings that are well-respected in Parma, are hopelessly in love and forced to fight for each other as society forbids their union.

‘Tis Pity She’s a W***e in the Loeb Ex seeks to explore gender, language, and the body: how the three are mapped onto each other to create vi

olence and to blur the lines between public and private, harming female-bodied and femme-expressing individuals’ autonomy and safety. For this reason, we are casting actors who identify as women, transgender by any definition, genderq***r, non-binary, non-conforming, and any person with a gender identity or expression that has been associated with femininity at any stage in their life. Actors wishing to audition are encouraged to contact Eliza (they/them/theirs) and/or Madi (she/her/hers) with any questions they may have about this or any other aspect of the project. This project will also feature a socially-engaged public art project, open to all members of the Harvard community, regardless of identity. 'Like' our page to get updates on the project and how to get involved. Please be advised that this production will include violence, mysogynistic language, physical/emotional abuse, suggestion of s*xual assault, and in**st.

“Uppity trans women throw the first bricks” (not cis white gay men as most literature and media would have you believe!) So grateful for leaders in the fight like Marsha P. Johnson ❤️

Visionary black trans activist Marsha P. Johnson helped change the face of the LGBTQ rights movement. Johnson was one of the leaders of the groundbreaking 1969 Stonewall uprising. Shortly after, she and her friend Sylvia Rivera created STAR, the world’s first trans rights organization, which provided shelter to homeless LGBTQ people.

Being openly q***r in the 1970s was radical–and dangerous–enough, but to be so while also being marginalized as a low-income woman of color and a s*x worker was positively revolutionary. She advocated for free gender expression and an end to prison injustice and homelessness, and paved the way for others who are doing the same today.
