Today was a hard day. A dear man who meant the world to our family was remembered. I need to say why he mattered so much to us.
In 2010, Ed Reid started a youth drama class in Calhoun, Ga. We were there from the first class, and pretty much every other class, until we moved away almost 6 years later.
Those were some very dark years for our family. Martin’s mental health was rocky, and our family was really struggling.
Our weekly Wednesday afternoons with our drama friends (who quickly grew to be family) were a lifeline to some sense of normalcy and yes, maybe even escape from the pain at home. Mr. Reid was a role model and example to my kids of a godly, self sacrificing leader. He gave of his time without taking a dime, and poured into those kids, not just acting lessons, but life lessons as well. He genuinely cared for them and was so proud of every accomplishment. He once told me what a joy it was for him to see so many of the kids go on to land roles in community theaters, and when his health allowed he would come watch them perform like a proud Grandpa. His positive impact on our family, my kids and grandkids, was a gift from God. Ed and Toni Reid, and our Calhoun drama family days are an indelible part of who we are.
Mr. Reid, you will be forever in our hearts, until we see you again. Maybe we’ll all get to do a reunion show in heaven. ❤️❤️❤️
