A big issue I've been seeing more and more the last few years is some people not understanding the difference between good storytelling and good character design VS DEI characters and woke plot points.
There ARE alot of cases where over the last 5 years or so, studios were purposely putting more women and people of color or LGBT representation in games or films and most of it didn't even make sense for the games or films they were in.
BUT, there are also alot of cases where there's a female lead or gay person or whatever and it works well because the writing makes sense and it isnt forced down your throat.
William and Rick in Invincible and Phastos in Eternals being great examples of making gay characters work the same way straight ones do. Felt natural.
Kay Vess, despite outlaws being a trash game, was a decent female lead character and there were even some real baddies in that game.
Rey in starwars is badass but she got stuck with trash writers to the point where she didnt even understand what was going on half the time.
Game of thrones is riddled with badass females and gay characters that all worked amazingly. Hermoine is one of the most badass women in fiction and she was one kf 3 main characters throughout all of Harry Potter and was kind of the savior in alot of situations. Lara Croft, the chick from Prey, Elektra popping off in multiple forms over the last few years, marvel rivals showing love to badass female characters, I could go on for ages.
But now, God of War is hitting us with Laufey which for alot of us, we've been waiting for it either in the form of DLC or a game. Her story can tie up so many loose ends and add so much more to the lore. The gameplay looks like kratos if he was more agile and magical. But some small pockets of the internet are hating on it and claiming its woke and blah blah, when its a natural prequel. It makes sense to do this game, then later release another kratos game or atreus. Same way insomniac did spiderman, then miles morales, then spiderman 2.
Just from the gameplay we've seen in the trailers, I'm all in. I know alot of you are too, what are you most excited to see in Laufey? For me its more of the gods from different pantheons, and seeing how her magic develops and what the end of her story looks like.
