Head behind the scenes at the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum with us and check out our life support systems 🤩

Four rooms make up the back of house area, where the LSS is housed alongside additional holding and quarantine tanks. Tight corners and pre-existing load-bearing columns provided a nice challenge for the Tenji team to be able to maximize the space we had.

Our work wouldn't be possible without the support of stellar products from our partners. Thanks to pumps from Abyzz , sumps from MRC , monitors & controls from Neptune Systems , heat exchangers from Aqua Logic Inc , valves from Asahi/America Inc., and display tanks from Waterdog Products , the Shell Museum is up and running smoothly.

Central Campus Marine Sciences Program

I never really think about how to show my thanks and appreciation to my students for the work they put in each day. Sometimes it's a vinaka vaka levu (thank you very much, in Fijian), a high five, a nautilus sticker, food, a call home, ... I just kind of go with what feels natural in the moment.

A small subset of students was permitted back in the lab on June 1 and they've been running the show since then. They got back into the routine quickly and it's been a pretty smooth transition. While we still aren't permitted to have tours or any visitors, I challenged the group to maintain the lab as "Tour Ready" as we put it. Cleanliness, organization, healthy fish, and great looking exhibits are the backbones of that. I also think coming into a clean lab everyday is just good for morale.

So, to show off their work, here's a little virtual tour of the lab!

P.S. I'm sure former students will notice there have been many changes...
